14ersco Posted September 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2014 On our previous trip to Australia we spent about a week in Tasmania. So we have seen most of the major sights within a days drive of Hobart; except to the south. On our Australia to New Zealand cruise this December we are considering renting a car and traveling through the Huon Valley as far as the Tahune Airwalk. Is this a doable drive within the 10 hours we are docked in Hobart? Thanks for the help
Aus Traveller Posted September 5, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 5, 2014 It is only 70km to the Air Walk, but the roads are slow. We have been on the Air Walk and frankly I would not categorise it as a "must see". Have you done the boat trip at Bruny Island? That is fantastic and it is available as a day trip from Hobart. They take passengers by bus to Bruny Island for the 11am (from memory) boat trip.

Thanks for the help Yes easily doable, around 1.5 hours each way and it is a lovely place to go, I consider it worth going (unless the weather is really bad). The tree walk itself is quite interesting and the views are spectacular.:D As others have mentioned there is also Bruny island which is a great place to go as well, tours are run from Hobart or from the Island and some include the 'Yellow boat' (Google) down to the Southern Ocean and the seal/penguin colonies. 14ersco Posted September 7, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted September 7, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions. Our biggest challenge is we are docking on Boxing Day, not everything is open, including the brewery. :( We had looked at Bruny Island, but didn't want to risk getting back to the ship based on the whims of the island ferry. If Celebrity offered this as a shore excursion and waited for us then it would be fine. A 90 minute one-way drive to see a different part of Tasmania sounds like a nice way to relax after Christmas dinner. :)
