Hi Diva's My hair needs a shampoo change I have been using the same shampoo for over a year. The shampoo is not working like it use to. I shampoo every other day and use a buildup remover once a week. My hair is fine but also very thick. Diva's do you have any recomendations?? I would like something for good body that won't weigh my hair down. Help?

hi there what a good question!!....I am using 2 different products at the moment..call me nuts LOL
I found these wonderful shampoos/shower gels in one...the are from a company in Scotland called "Arran Aromatics". Enjoying their wonderful fragrances!
And prior to that...I had read on here about "Charles Worthington Products"...they are WONDERFUL..actually they make my hair softer and and shinier than most anything I have ever tried. His products are sold in Walgreens

I've been using the Aussie "Moist" shampoo, and the Dove weightless conditioner for quite a while now, and have been very happy with both.

I guess my only complaint about the shampoo is that it tends to fade my color pretty quickly, but then again I've been dyeing it red, which is known to fade fast anyway. And since I've decided to go back to my natural color (Eek!), that'll be a moot point soon anyway. I use Aveda products from my salon. But, I too like everyone else, have to change "types" here and there. My hairdresser always advices me what to go with when it's time to go from...Mint to sap moss, etc...
Ask your hairdresser, she knows your hair and your budget.

I've been using Pantene for color treated hair and it really brings shine to my hair. I have to rinse the conditioner immediately or it's too soft. Someone gave me Back to Basics for Vitality and my hair dresser said I had very healthy hair - I have seen this product at Ulta3.

I've been a shampoo a holic in the past! Tried them all, or at least it seemed that way and I never could tell the difference from the salon stuff vs the grocery store shelf, at least for some of the products.

GMA did a show on products and they indicated TresAme (sp?) is as good as salon for a WalMart price. I find it dries my scalp but may work for someone else. Smells nice.

I periodically use a clarifyer to get all that stuff out of your hair before I switch.

Hubby is pantene, but I usually revert back to Aussi Moist. I like their entire line of products.

I did use something last year Silk? or maybe it had silk in it.. was very nice. I emptied the bottle into travel bottles, we went to England, so now I don't remember the name!!

I had to change my shampoo all the time too, because it would quit working. I have probably been using Pantene now for about 10 years and it still works very well! I've tried others over the years (just because I'm a sucker for new products -- just HAVE to try it!). I always go back to Pantene.

I can buy just about any professional product at wholesale prices if I want (DH is still in the business) but I keep going back to good old Biolage by Matrix. They have a good shampoo for colored hair and I love their Conditioning Balm.

Hi Kathy! I have seen Biolage where they cut my hair...but have never tried it.
I have short, dark, thick hair. See photos below .
Does it leave your hair soft and shiney?

Lois, They have several types of shampoo, your stylist could recommend the best one for your hair type. The Conditioning Balm is just wonderful.

The difference between professional products and store products is the quality of the ingredients. If you cannot tell the difference between the two types of shampoo, you are using the wrong product for your hair. A high quality shampoo is more concentrated, it only takes a little to get a good wash, emulsify it in your hands before putting it on your wet hair. If you don't shampoo your hair every day or two, lather, rinse, repeat. Many people use too much conditioner and it will weigh your hair down. Try to keep the conditioner away from your scalp, just condition the ends. Clarifying products are for people who use a lot of styling product (gel, mousse, wax, spray) to get rid of buildup. A deep conditioner is great for longer hair that tends to get dry ends, put it in dry, or towel dried hair, wrap in plastic and leave in for 20 minutes. If you have a heat source, such as a hooded hair dryer, I'm really aging myself here, that will help it penetrate. Color treated hair needs shampoo formulated for...color treated hair, other shampoos will more quickly strip the color out.

I'm sure many of you love the way your hair feels after a salon appointment. Ask your stylist to recommend the product they have used on your hair, you can duplicate that feeling at home. I know I may sound like a broken record for always saying to ask for professional advise. Remember, these are people who have trained and continue their education, mostly at their own expense, to bring the best to their profession.

Sorry for the long winded shampoo lesson.

I would also recommend the Biolage. It leaves your hair looking very conditioned and feeling very healthy. I also really like Biosilk (perhaps what you were thinking of tinsel57). I have very thick hair and this product leaves it silky smooth and shiny. Also, a lot of my friends like Matrix Sleek Look. It smooths hair down and adds body. My hair is too thick to use it, but it works great on other hair types.

No matter what shampoo you use, I recommend that those people with straight hair use Biosilk's Cure as a leave-in after you get out of the shower. It leaves hair incredibly smooth and shiny. More than once, people have approached me and asked me what my secret is...

Kathy, sorry I didn't reply sooner! Thanks for all the information ...question...are you or have you been in the "Hair Business"?

I am due for a hair cut soon...maybe I will breakdown and try some Biolage...it seems so pricey to me

Lois, I was a hair stylist for 15 years, but got out of the business 10 years ago when my kids started school. I could no longer work Saturdays if I wanted to see the little ones. We owned our own shop for 16 years, getting rid of it last year (the best decision we have ever made). Now we have more time for cruises and no more employee headaches. DH is still in the business, things are going great for him renting a chair in someone elses shop.

BTW, the prices may seem high, but if you use it properly, it will last longer than drug store products. You just gotta retrain yourself not to use as much product, a little goes a long way. After saying that, I admit to globbing on conditioner sometimes.

Hi Kathywell...I got a haircut today and spoke to my gal about shampoos!
Told her Biolage was highly recommended and she agreed!
So, I bought a bottle..it is their newest one...it is "Ultra Hydrating". My hair is not dry but my scalp is...and she said it should definitely put moisture back in for me.
And the nice thing is...(as you probably can testify)they will allow me to use if for a few washings and if I am not happy I can return it.
One of the benefits of buying from a salon .
Normally I know if I like a shampoo after only about 2 or 3 washings.
And they said the same thing you did...I only need a little bit as it is quite concentrated.
It is a 16 oz bottle...it was 10.50.
So, thanks for the tip and will let you know how my hair acts!
