Pearl late leaving 6th Oct

Does anyone have any word on why the Pearl did not leave White Bay until 6:34pm yesterday (6th) when she was originally scheduled to leave at 4pm?

The interesting thing to note was that the Pilot Boat was in place just ahead of the ship from 3:50pm until 4:45pm, then left heading towards the Anzac Bridge area.

Also the tug was in place at the ship at 3:30pm and was still there when we gave up waiting to see her departure, just before 5pm.

We all know ships can run late, but did they forget to tell the Harbour Pilots or was there a last minute emergency, or was the recent change to Daylight Saving to blame?

Interested to hear the reasons,

Rosee

Thanks rkmw for your input.

Sydney Ports Cruise Ship Schedule has it listed to leave at 4pm, but I believe the Sydney Ports Departures will change departure times as they are notified.

The question remains, why would the Harbour Pilot boat and the tug be in attendance around 4pm if she wasn't scheduled to leave at that time?

Interesting....?

It was definitetly listed to sail at 4 pm as I checked the bridge cam from Sea Princess , which was just behind Pearl , and a tug was sitting there , waiting, waiting, waiting,........ then it gave up and left.:D

Nice shot Kiwi Kruzer!

I was near the large Moreton Bay Fig tree way in the distance on the edge of your shot, looking directly at the Pearl head on. It is a lovely view from Observatory Park to watch the ships depart from White Bay. I took several photos, one with the tug out to the side of the Pearl at 3:38pm, but unfortunately didn't take one which included the Pilot Boat. At that point in time I wasn't thinking she would not be leaving on time.

Maybe when the Pearl returns we might hear from some of the passengers as to what was the cause of her late departure.

Really enjoy all the photos you post from time to time,

Thanks,

Rosee

On large ships the engines are never turned off, unless they have to pulled apart, like Sea Princess, and they run at a constant speed,ie they don't increase revs as they move off or adjust ship's speed.

Pearl's engines are renown for blowing out soot and black smoke.

When she was built they were designed to run a very cheap form of low grade heavy bunker oil that is not clean burning. That technology would not be allowed today.

So Australia can inherit all these older ships that burn dirty fuel and ruin our pristine areas. They should have at least changed the engines fuel injectors (or what ever is needed) and the fuel on the Sea princess when she was in dry dock.:(

This isn't good :(

Anyone know which other ships operating down here are similar?

I would think the whole P&O fleet would be the same along with the Princess Australian ships as well such as Dawn, Ocean, Sea and Sun.
