fantasy51 Posted November 4, 2014 #26 Share Posted November 4, 2014 So far from what I am hearing - Jimsgirl did not like the food and the humor of one of the nurses. She's received good medical treatment and good support - and I am asking anyone if they ever found good food in a hospital. After a stroke, the hospital diet is salt - free thus hardly comparable to the Britannia Restaurant. Yoshikitty, she didn't see a doctor for days, which I consider to be the most worrying aspect of the whole treatment.

Fantasy51, I was just thinking the same thing. When my mother-in-law had a stroke, she was not far from a hospital, was examined and evaluated by doctors and given prompt treatment. We later realized how important it was to her recovery that treatment had begun so quickly. (General info regarding stroke treatment here: http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/health-topics/topics/stroke/treatment.html -S.

Yes, this is unbelievable and against fundamental medical ethics. The head nurse's remarks were unprofessional as well, to say the least. I would sue all of them. Tbh, I doubt this. When being 'checked in' at a hospital, there is always a doctor around. Maybe she did not see the big boss, but I am sure that a doctor was involved - though she may not have realized it.
Cats2010 Posted November 4, 2014 #30 Share Posted November 4, 2014 . Again must say my troubles were NOT fault of Cunard Care, Carnival, or Call international, but solely bad conditions , bad staff at Hospital. It seemed that doctor only worked 2 days a week, kitchen did not prepare "HOT meals."of any kind Jimsgirl, it is now too late to change conditions, but I wonder why the ship's medical service or Call did not address themselves to the American Embassy in Brussels? For tourists in difficulties abroad this would be one of the first addresses to turn to.
cunardaddict Posted November 4, 2014 #31 Share Posted November 4, 2014 Yoshikitty, she didn't see a doctor for days, which I consider to be the most worrying aspect of the whole treatment. If that was true her doctor should ask the hospital for the full report and check on it. But I doubt it because we have a specisl stroke awareness year in the European Union. Adammara Posted November 4, 2014 #32 Share Posted November 4, 2014 A bit off topic, but We stayed in a Brussels 4 star hotel last December, the staff, like cruise ships, was a mix of nationalities, and we received excellent service. Some of the what appeared to be local business customers at the hotel treated the staff like dirt. We got on well with the barman in the lounge, and on the last night tipped him and gave him our unused tram tickets. On checkout several drinks were missing of the bill, we left wondering if they went on a certain party's bill!
Salacia Posted November 5, 2014 #33 Share Posted November 5, 2014 Note to Mrs. Jimgirl: Lynn, I hope that if you have read this thread you can see that you continue to ignite conversation which hopefully will educate us all. Please know that at the heart of it, your experience has served a good purpose to your fellow sailors. While the debate has taken a tangent, please smile and know that you continue to educate. Rest and recover, that's the main thing. I have no doubt that you'll come out swinging. I just wish I had half the courage and fortitude that you possess. Jimsgirl Posted November 8, 2014 Author #34 Share Posted November 8, 2014 So far from what I am hearing - Jimsgirl did not like the food and the humor of one of the nurses. She's received good medical treatment and support - and I am asking anyone if they ever found good food in a hospital. After a stroke, the hospital diet is salt - free thus hardly comparable to the Britannia Restaurant. So the critics about the personell and the hospital seems to be not really fair. I di not post this thread to start a verbal war, but must reply to you and Cunard addict. I DID NOT receive GOOD medical care, it was absolutely terrible . There was only one young girl (poss. Nurse ) to admit me, NEVER saw a doctor for 4 days, Never got the MRI or Ultra sound for 3 days. Never got help to assist me empty my bladder, had to wet the evening dress I was still wearing hours after being admitted. NEVER got a HOT meal in 6 days, it was always 2 slices rye bread and raw fish or raw bacon for meat , never received medication until the Nurse escorting me home arrived the hospital on 6th day. As for suggestions that I could have ordered food from local restaurant!!!!!!! Do those posters not actually read before typing reply? I was ALONE, Did not speak Flemish, had NO EUROS ( I had NOT PLANNED to have a stroke believe me ). Could not STAND or WALK, Could NOT use whole of left side, speech slurred, face drooping on left side, I was completely helpless . I hope no one else on this board is ever in such a terrible situation. Nurses were "evil" acted more like concentration camp guards than members of the medical profession. Would not even give me drink of water! Arriving back after 11hour (very good flight ) at my local hospital here, I was admitted by a doctor, given every help I needed, medication, MRI within hours, same with ultra sound. Next morning breakfast - yes salt free but there was a small glass orange juice, oatmeal with raisons, scrambled egg, hash browns, Lunch was cup of tasty vegetable soup, small but tasty chicken pot pie, creamed corn, and for desert a container of jello with orange slices. On bedside table all the iced water I needed with a straw for ease of drinking, ,tissues to use, it was heaven after Belgium.
Cats2010 Posted November 8, 2014 #35 Share Posted November 8, 2014 It is insofar Cunard/Carnival and Call International's responsibility since you had a contract with them, not with the Belgian hospital. It follows therefrom that you should address them for explanations.
