I am considering an afternoon snorkeling tour with Fury tours that ends at 4PM.

My ship leaves Key West at 5. Am I cutting it to close to make it back to the ship? in time

Many ships I have sailed required passengers to be back on board a half hour before the ship is set to depart. That said, folks seem to trail back to the ship almost right up to departure time. For myself I would be extremely anxious if I were pushing that last fifteen minutes mark.

 

In your case be sure to check carefully exactly what time guests are expected to be back on board and what time the ship will set sail.

FWIW the Appledore V with Sebago goes out at 10:00 am and returns at 3:00 pm and serves a nice lunch and gives you more time in the water. It gives you two hours to get back and over to the ship to the ship.

Thanks so much for the suggestion. I love the idea of a sailing schooner instead of a catamaran. Tripadvisor reviews were great. Booked it!
