Wine Package: 7 Bottles @ $42 Per Bottle

By my calculation that's just about $300. Has anyone actually purchased this package recently and would they recommend it over ordering wine ala carte (we are not big drinkers - usually one bottle will take us through two dinners). Are the wines equal to other $40 wines (on the ship) - whereby with the package you are saving almost $8 a bottle for gratuity?

This is something fairly new with Oceania. Did not have on our last cruise in April. We have however done some of the other packages where the wine was more expensive. It is a great deal however you can always get wine by the glass and their prices are fairly reasonable. The one problem we find with doing a package is we are never sure what type of wine we will want for our meal. So if we purchase wine ahead of time we are guessing how many whites and reds to buy and which ones. Hope this helps.

We have just returned from Insignia and experienced the package. The wines on the package are not represented on the regular wine list so you cannot compare pricing.

 

As an example, the French Rose on the wine list was $34.00. With the 18% gratuity it comes to $40.12. The French Rose in the package is $42.50.

 

We didn't bother comparing the other wines, but we will probably not purchase the package in the future. It's too confining and we always had to remember that we had a bottle lurking out there that needed to be consumed before the end of the trip.

The one 7 bottle list I've seen here on CC had a couple of mid-$30s retail wines (e.g., Grigich Chardonnay) available at Safeway or Total Wine here in northern CA. But most of the bottles on the menu we saw retail here for less than $15. So, if you know your wines and they actually have the few better wines on the list, the 7 bottle deal may be worth it.

We do the prestige package, which has a couple of decent sparklers with 1-2 passable reds and whites by the glass.

We are just off Marina. The 7 bottle package is a convenient way to have a variety of wines available, its not that hard to keep track of.

On a 14 day or longer cruise it's easy to manage, although on the last night there were several people using up their partials.

The list appeared again towards the end of the cruise, but the better choices didn't appear on this 2nd list.
