Skitter Posted August 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2005 Shongerob.....I was wondering if you ever got a answer why they stopped the horse races??? When I asked about them I got 3 or 4 different reasons. Skitter
spongerob Posted August 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2005 No horse races. I asked a member of the casino staff about this and the explanation I received is that there is no way to verify that the winning horse is the proper winner, i.e. no surveillance or recording of dice rolls and movment of the horses by the jockies, therefore no way to settle disputes if there is a claim that results have been "fixed". Given that everyone seems to have stopped the horse races around the same time, at least as far as the horse race auction goes, I suspect that there is some legal action pending or that a settlement was required. Skitter Posted August 23, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted August 23, 2005 I thought that might have been the reason. I guess that leaves bingo and art auctions. I wish they would stop both of them. Skitter

People who could even think of challenging the result of one of these horse races on the grounds that it had been fixed are definitely in dire need of a life. It's only a bit of fun! spongerob Posted August 25, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 25, 2005 I doubt anyone ever challenged one of the normal races. However, when there is an auction, it is possible to have several hundred to even a few thousand dollars at stake. That's a horse of a different color. Globaliser Posted August 25, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 25, 2005 And we all lived very happily when there were only low value horse races, and no high value auctions ... But there must be some reason beyond the reach of my addled brain why the simplest solutions are never adopted.

Well, there are problems all around. My mom was on the Island Princess last year playing Bingo. She was down to one number [blackout game] when suddenly, the caller got excited and 'knocked over' the bingo machine. The game had to be recalled - mother was not impressed... That would come under the "malfunction or error voids all plays and pays" rule common to every regulated gambling operation. It really does bite when you think you've got a winner, though. The situation is not comparable to the issues with verifying the horse races. I agree with Globaliser, the solution(s) are simple and obvious. People who could even think of challenging the result of one of these horse races on the grounds that it had been fixed are definitely in dire need of a life. It's only a bit of fun! Exactly! And what are the bets? A couple of dollars? It's not like they are charging $20 a bet on the races! I did the dicey horseracing on the Island this past spring. Our CC group even bought a horse. I never for a minute considered it true gambling ... more like some good, clean, wholesome fun. While I personally wouldn't spend a dime on the casino or Bingo ... think it's a waste of money ... the horseracing was different and it was fun. Shame they had to do away with it just because someone took it so seriously. :( Blue skies ... --rita
prarie cruiser Posted August 26, 2005 #11 Share Posted August 26, 2005 Oh No! I am so sorry the horses are gone! I really enjoyed watching them and at the end of the week I enjoyed the "owners" carrying around their horse and dressing it up for the races. Well, someone must have stepped in some of the you know what horses tend to leave behind!
