bkgadget Posted August 30, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2005 Hi all, The DW and I are on the Dec. sailing of the Dawn. We plan on driving ddown from Toronto Ontario Canada a couple of days early and see some of New York City. Can anyone suugest a decent hotel that is not horrifically expensive and would not be a bad drive to the pier on the day of departure? Thanks in advance, Inspector Gadget
TrinaLC Posted August 30, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2005 try in putting your dates at hotwire; you get a very good idea of the amenities and location, just not the name; i've used it many times and been very happy. Almost any manhattan location should be an easy drive. However, bringing the car into the city will be expensive, esp. parking at the hotel. Your best bet would be to drop the bags off and then head for some cheap parking and leave it while you are in the city and on the cruise, using a cab to get from the hotel to the cruise line. If you do that, best location to chose for hotwire would be times square area. Do a search for NYC parking on this site and you'll probably get pointers to some cheap convenient garages. (Also, if you have time, review the tips at biddingfortravel.com; you'll be a hotwire pro in no time.)
newyorkgolfer41 Posted August 31, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 31, 2005 I'd suggest Midtown if this is your first visit to Manhattan. Not sure what to tell you about having a car except it is more of a liability than an asset. Parking is horrendous and very pricey. Taxis are so plentiful and economical. I wish you weren't driving.
