Jewel Class Deck 4 Forward Ocenview porthole

Got a GREAT deal on an Obstructed Oceanview Guarantee for Spring Break on the Jewel with last OC/UDP/UBP offer. Assigned 4506 on Deck 4. (We are fine with this, we know that a guarantee is always a gamble). We usually prefer higher floors, but have been on the Wind in a lower deck and loved it!

Anyone have any experience with Deck 4 Forward on Jewel/Gem/Pearl? The cabin appears to be a little longer and possibly even a little wider than others. Thanks all!

We have had Fwd cabins, port-side on the Jewel/Dawn class ships on deck 4 and deck - locations is fine, excellent if you run into rough seas - but still a bit of fun with vertical motions. For the Mexico itinerary, which we did a few years back with the Star, we had a similar porthole - great for the 3 ports as one is tendering and you are a short walk from it (and, when returning) and even when docked, as the gangway is down "below".

Foot traffic is minimal except when ship is going into/leaving ports and on turnaround days, and, expect to hear the anchors being lowered & raised to prepare for sailing (good as it served as "natural" alarms to wakeup or get ready to go, etc.) - whereas the midship location might have you below the dining room and/or kitchen gallery/service carts moved about.

We booked the GEM in 2012 for an obstructed OV and was assigned a porthole for deck 4 - an "upgrade" going from deck 8, just perfect as it was right after Hurricane Sandy sailing out of NYC with a Noreaster aiming at us in gale force wind. You are fine as I would be happy as it's all about saving money to do more of other things (and, sailing more often :D ;) ) Here's 1 photo in the collection - more in the review linked under SIGnature.

** I doubt that those cabins are wider/deeper, the ship's shape/design has it slanted inward, but we moved the beds against one wall so we have more space the way "we" like it as it's just 2 of us. This cabin has bedding for 4 - 1 pullman & 1 riser underneath.

I have been reading a few other threads about lower decks in the Jewel class ships, and one thing mentioned in a funky sewer smell on lower decks. I am VERY sensitive to smells. Anyone else have issues with this?

Wow, I just looked on another website with deck plans and noticed that the portholes on the Jewel are tiny, about 12-15" :( I was expecting them to be the size of the portholes on the Sun, nearly 2 feet across.
