That may be. If it's so basic, so available and so easy, the players would win the majority of time, which isn't so.

Most players don't seem to play basic strategy.

The odds, no matter how slim, always favor the house unless you are card counting.

The casino, for all intensive purposes, has unlimited cash. They can outlast the players winning streaks.

The player does not have unlimited cash. They cannot outlast a losing streak.

Most players aren't disciplined enough to manage their money correctly.

Most players can't resist the urge to bet small when they are losing and only increase their bet when they are ahead.

As I stated in my previous post most of the players, myself included, play too long.

I would say 90% of the time I play blackjack I get ahead of the casino at some point during my session. The problem is it is not enough to walk away. I only play occasionally and for fun. I am not going to sit down at a blackjack table and walk way $50.00 ahead after playing only 10 minutes. Consequently I want to play a couple of hours and double my buy in.

I can tell you when I am practicing at the house it is amazing how often and how much I win. The reason for this is because I have unlimited capital when I am playing for fun at the house. If I get down $2000.00 it is no big deal, I just buy in again and again until I catch a hot streak and get it all back. In real life I don't have that luxury.

I have been sitting on the sidelines for a couple of days reading these posts. Here are my thoughts.

I hope they keep the $6.00 minimum tables. I like to play $10.00 and $25.00 tables. The newbies need some place to get their feet wet but I don't want to be around them when they are learning to play the game.

With computers and the internet it is so easy to learn how to play craps or Blackjack there is no reason to not learn basic strategy before you play for real money.

As mentioned above money management is the key factor. Set a loss limit for every session and stick to it. If you get on a roll and get ahead put some of it aside so that no matter what, you walk away a winner. It is better to walk away $5.00 up rather than $500.00 down.

Flat betting, betting the same amount every time bores me to death. I like the anti-martingale system. Basically it is a progressive betting system where you increase your bet when you win two in a row. There is more to it. Look it up if you are interested. I am not dumb enough to think a progressive system will make me win but it is the most conservative betting system out there and it breaks up the monotony.

People really should research the games they want to play rather than go in blindly, your money will last so much longer and you have a much better chance of winning.

Bad players have no effect on the table over the long run. I have played more Blackjack and have studied the game more than I care to admit and you will remember when the jerk at third base "costs" you a big hand. You will never remember when he saved the table by splitting tens.

If anybody is so inclined check out the Wizard of Odds website for more information and you can learn how to play for free. You can also print basic strategy cards for free.

when someone starts spitting tens and I start losing... i change tables:D

I must admit on my last cruise in late September I was on the Liberty. We were on a $10.00 table and the gentleman at third base was losing his behind. The rest of us were having a great time but this guy at third base was moaning and groaning with every hand he was dealt.

He was a split tens, hit 12 and 13 against 5 and 6, hold on 15 and 16 against tens type of guy. The rest of us were doing pretty good and we all figured he would run out of money soon enough and leave. We were wrong, he kept buying in and buying in. He must have bought in for 3k in the first two hours we played. Keep in mind he is betting relatively small every hand.

Well after about the 100th time he blows up when the dealer flips over a 10 card to make a 20 against the losers 15 I couldn't take it. Mr. third base says I can't believe how much I am losing and I say, without thinking, I can sure see why the way you are playing. Well he comes unglued and I apologize before it gets really ugly.

Later on we all were having a good time and I was up over $1000.00 I had a $150.00 hand out, which is big for me and I am dealt 8's. I split against a dealers 6 and my buddy at third base hits his hard 16 against that dealers 6. I sit there with $300.00 on the table just shaking my head. Anyway third base pulls a 5 for 21. The dealer flips over and has a 16 and pulls an 8 for a bust. Mr. Bad luck at third saved the table. The next two hands I left my $150.00 bet out and third base saved me the next two hands by not playing basic strategy. On hand four I busted by hitting a 16 against a dealers 10 card. Oh well I went down fighting.

I remember all this because most people at the table were betting 10-15 dollars and they thought I was crazy betting $150.00 with our buddy at third base and because it is one of the few times I have bet over $100.00 several times in a row.

I will say do feel bad spouting off and if I see him on the Valor in three weeks I will buy him his gin and tonic that he drinks.
