Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted March 30, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2015 In Noumea you can get Francs at an ATM. If your ship docks at the container terminal there will be a shuttle bus, and diagonally across the road from where the shuttle bus drops you off is a Casino supermarket with an ATM in front of it. Some places in Noumea, including the Hop On Hop Off bus counter, some tourist shops and cafes, will accept Aussie dollars but not necessarily at the best exchange rate. Also how much you spend depends on what you are planning to do that day. A tour? Exploring by yourself? The Hop On Hop Off bus is $15 per person, not sure if there is a different rate for children. On the Iles of Pines you can use Aussie dollars or Francs but there is no ATM there, and I'm not sure if you can use credit cards there. Unless you are doing a tour, the only money you will need is for drinks, food, and souvenirs. We spent about $100 for two of us but that included a bracelet, a shirt for DH, a top for me, and food and drinks. Exchange rates onboard are not good usually. Better to take Aussie cash with you and/or get Francs at the local Noumea ATMs. Have a great cruise. You're going to a lovely part of the world. :)
Northern Aurora Posted March 30, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2015 We had port calls in both Noumea and the Isle of Pines last October. While the ship docked in the container port shuttle busses delivered us to the ferry terminal building (short ride). We used the ATM across the street at the Casino supermarket to obtain francs. Since we were on B2B cruises we actually were in Noumea twice, and at one of the port calls we went to the lovely aquarium. The aquarium admission was approximately XPF1000 per person and was well worth a visit.
