bringing wine onboard in Australia?

Can anyone confirm for me if you are allowed to bring a bottle of wine each on board when starting your cruise when sailing in Australia. I know you can do it when sailing in America but not sure if the same rule applies here.

Many thanks

No you are not allowed to bring any alcohol aboard. Ok to bring 12 bottles / cans of soft drink or water 600mls or less. If you buy duty free alcohol on shore it will be held until the end of the cruise.

I'm really curious now. I thought the Australian cruises only visited Australian ports? How can you buy alcohol duty free in that situation?

The Australian cruises mainly visit South Pacific Island ports and there is duty free shopping on the islands with main towns eg when we were in Vila the Duty free alcohol was quite cheap compared to store prices back home so a lot of people bought their limit of duty free alcohol ashore which is then held by the ship until end of the cruise and must be declared when coming back to Australia.

Seems crazy that there is a different policy for Australia-- one bottle per person in the USA and zero for Australia. Discriminatory.

Discriminatory? Probably more likely to be influenced by the laws of the country.

After all, Australians are allowed to carry on a bottle of wine per adult if embarking in the United States.

It is not due to the laws of the country. I go on Royal Caribbean and Princess cruises in and out of Australia and they both allow us to bring 1 bottle of wine each on board at embarkation. Princess also allows us to bring on a bottle each at each subsequent port. Seems strange that Carnival allow it in America but not here in Australia. Still, not a big issue and certainly no influence on my continuing to enjoy cruising with Carnival - looking forward to my our 5th Carnival cruise in February.
