Ciardasully Posted April 23, 2015 #26 Share Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Congratulations! I sailed on the Sunshine when I was nine weeks pregnant. The joke was whatever money we saved from the drinks I didn't have, my husband used it at the casino. :D I did drink the virgin drinks. I did get some morning sickness (afternoon for me though) and all I wanted was the potato salad. I never get motion sickness but I had a rough time with the tender at Grand Cayman but luckily I felt better once we got on land. Your cruise experience may be different but just relax, take it easy and don't push yourself too hard. Oh and it wouldn't hurt to check with your OB. Carnival has a form to fill out and we filled it out just in case. Edited April 23, 2015 by Ciardasully
volmoma Posted April 23, 2015 #27 Share Posted April 23, 2015 I can only order virgin drinks. My favorite are the Miami Vice, banana split, and chocolate mocha getaway Sent from my KFSOWI using Tapatalk If your husband gets the Cheers card, which means you purchase cheers card. This being said, have your dr fill out papers verifying your pregnant and there shouldn't be a problem with only your hubby buying the program. I've heard of people claiming to be pregnant just to not have both people in the cabin purchase the card. CONGRATES!!! aaron3219 Posted April 23, 2015 #28 Share Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) My wife was a few months pregnant on our cruise last year. We went in April and our son was born in July. She got terribly motion sick the first day out. After that she was good. Morning sickness but not sick all day like she was the 1st full day at sea. The people on the ship were more than happy to make her special virgin drinks and take care of anything she needed. Enjoy your trip and congratulations. audcc77 Posted April 23, 2015 #29 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Congrats on your pregnancy. There is a non-prescription product called Emetrol which we bring every time we cruise. It is safe for children and for morning sickness, but clear it with your doctor of course. You can use green apples to calm nausea as well. Sometimes these are hard to find on the buffet but room service should be able to help.

We both had to buy it and then we went to guest services and mine was refunded. But they also verified the form from my OB which was on file. With no disrespect to what you heard from people, I don't think it is likely to be the exception to the Cheers program without the paperwork with the OB. Also, before going this route, I would also verify with the beverage manager before proceeding. I think it is up to the discretion of each ship because the policy fleetwide, last I knew, is no exceptions.
faroozi Posted April 23, 2015 #31 Share Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Congrats! I was pregnant, but didn't know it on our first cruise almost 10 years ago. I don't drink, so I didn't drink anyways. I did have a lot of nausea. Especially in areas that were humid or stuffy, but all in all did great. I thought I was just seasick. Also I was extra tired. So I took a nap most days, which is unusual for me. But after 4 kids, I now know this is my first sign of pregnancy. You should have a great time. The only other thing is, if you have a dolphin encounter planned, you might want to cousel. Dolphins can react to pregnancy hormones. Except that it may vary from ship to ship??? I don't think that would float, no pun intended. The only reason all adults in cabin have to purchase the Cheers card is that there is no sharing, I really don't think a father-to-be would try to share alcoholic drinks with the mommy-to-be. In my opinion it would be bad PR if cruisers found out that CCL, or any cruise line, forced alcoholic purchases on a pregnant women just because her traveling companion could drink. Like I stated its all about paperwork from the Dr. Hoping it works out, if not, it sure would change my opinion of CCL.

My apologies for not reading carefully. :) I wish the pun was intended. I like puns. What I was saying was that it is the policy (at least according to Carnival's Website) that everyone in a stateroom has to purchase the plan. There have been some experiences (myself included) where Carnival made an exception. In our case, we both had to purchase Cheers and then get my portion refunded at guest services. However, since Carnival doesn't state that they will make an exception in their policy, I recommend a person inquire before purchasing two Cheers program and then being stuck with paying $400+ for a drink package you can't use. And yes, I agree that it would be bad PR to force pregnant women to purchase a drink package she will not use. However, no one is forcing anyone to purchase the Cheers program. And Carnival should make a pregnancy exception (or really any medical condition where a Doctor can document that a person can not drink.) It's common sense. But until Carnival makes it official in there policy, proceed with caution :) Edited April 24, 2015 by Ciardasully

skywalkr2 Posted April 24, 2015 #35 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Anyone with a similar experience? Booked for a 7 day on Sunshine. I was really looking forward to those drinks.....do they all have virgin options?? Also, is this atmosphere going to be okay for me? You can drink wine in moderation while pregnant. Shoot most of us came to term with mothers drinking much more than that.

I was just a few weeks pregnant with my first on one of our cruises. There are plenty of virgin drink options, no worries. Talk to your doctor about what your options are for sea sickness..I found that worse when combined with morning sickness. With the exception of drinks and very late nights, our cruise went on as normal.

There are a lot to choose from that you can get without the alcohol. Bonus - they are cheaper :). Congrats!!
