DutchCruiseFan Posted May 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2015 I was looking at a video of the Explorer of the seas and i saw something interesting, it looks like there are tender embarkation platforms at the Side of the ship. Was this part of the renovation?
Scooter girl 58 Posted May 7, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Hi. I would also be interested in the tender situation as it may enable me to take my mobility scooter ashore in Villefranche which would be wonderful. I believe there is something similar on the Navigator.
DutchCruiseFan Posted May 7, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) If the Explorer has embarkation platforms you can for sure, my grandma's wheelchair was loaded into the tender Quick and easy on my cruise with the Splendour of the Seas! Ocean Boy Posted May 7, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2015 There was a platform years ago when we tendered in Grand Cayman from Explorer. What is new about this?
DutchCruiseFan Posted May 7, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Platforms like these were not on the Explorer before the refit, now there are.
DutchCruiseFan Posted May 7, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted May 7, 2015 (edited) If you look a few feet above the waterline you can see the differences. Picture 1 is before renovation. Picture 2 is after renovation. Edited May 7, 2015 by DutchCruiseFan

Maraprince Posted May 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted May 7, 2015 I was reading about all the additions to the Explorer now that she will be based in OZ and I had mixed feelings about the changes. On one hand, I am very glad to see the upgrades, but on the other hand I am sad that during Explorer's time in Bayonne she really could have benefited from them. Why couldn't the upgrades/additions been done while she was sailing from NJ? RCCL certainly priced her voyages at the same level as other ships in the fleet that had the upgrades! MARAPRINCE

DutchCruiseFan Posted May 7, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted May 7, 2015 Nice platform but your still not getting a wheelchair down those steps That platform is of the Norwegian Breakaway it is different. On the platforms of Royal Caribbean you don't acces via stairs, well you actually do but the stairs are inside the ship and there is a very small elevator aswell that is big enough for wheelchairs. DutchCruiseFan Posted May 7, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted May 7, 2015 At 3:50 you can see that at the port side of Explorer there are two Tender platforms and at 19:01 you can see that at the starboard side there is only one. Can somebody clarify this?
