BeachMartini Posted May 9, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 9, 2015 Hi All, Monday, June 15, we are planning to hit Horseshoe Bay early, head to The Swizzle for a late lunch and then walk around Hamilton a bit. I realize this is a holiday and some of the shops might be closed, but from what I've read public transportation will be running on a regular schedule. How would you get around? Should we take the regular bus to the beach, or does the express shuttle offer one way tickets? Bus to Swizzle from HSB? Which bus/direction, and is there a schedule so we know when to get to the stop? How much would a cab be to The Swizzle? Are there cabs available around 1 or 2 at HSB? And then bus into Hamilton from Swizzle... And ferry back to Dockyards. Also, does The Swizzle take reservations? Is there usually a long wait? Thanks and Happy Sails. njhorseman Posted May 9, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 9, 2015 (edited) Expect the buses and ferries to be running on the Sunday schedule, not the regular weekday schedule, and plan your day accordingly. Taxis fares will carry a 25% holiday surcharge for 1-4 passengers in a taxi, 50% surcharge for 5-7 passengers and expect taxis to be harder to find than on a normal weekday. AFAIK the beach shuttle from Dockyard only has round trip fares to Horseshoe Bay, but you can ask at the booth where they're sold if you can get a one way ticket. If you're taking a public bus, you take the #7 to get from Dockyard to Horseshoe Bay, and the #7 again to get from Horseshoe Bay to the new Swizzle Inn. The same #7 will take you from the new Swizzle Inn to Hamilton. In all three cases the bus is going in the same direction...from Dockyard to Hamilton. On a public holiday expect virtually all shops in Hamilton to be closed. Here's the bus schedule. You must make your plans using the Sunday schedule: http://www.gov.bm/portal/server.pt/gateway/PTARGS_0_2_20064_959_235551_43/http%3B/ptpublisher.gov.bm%3B7087/publishedcontent/publish/ministry_of_tourism_and_transport/department_of_public_transportation_2014/downloads/bus_schedule_april_2015.pdf Here's the ferry schedule. Again, use the Sunday schedule for the holiday: http://seaexpress.bm/Documents/Ferry/Summer%20Ferry%20Schedule%202015.pdf Edited May 9, 2015 by njhorseman
Island_Majesty Posted May 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 17, 2015 #7 bus heading east(across the street from Horseshoe) to get to The Swizzle, you can politely tell the bus driver where you're going and they'll inform you of the stop. And you shouldn't have to make reservations.
BeachMartini Posted May 17, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted May 17, 2015 Thanks very much. Has anyone been able to confirm if the HSB shuttle offers a one way ticket? We would take that in the morning if it did.
Island_Majesty Posted May 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 17, 2015 I do know the mini buses to Horseshoe have one way tickets. About $8 I think.
