Over a year ago I started on this sight, lurking at first, as I planned my cruise to Alaska. I worked out all my excursions based on the feedback

Icy Strait Point - Bear watching - saw bear, ate the best halibut I have ever had and met the loveliest people

Skagway - Train, Liarsville and Red Onion Saloon - train was so quiet I could be at the left, right back and front

Juneau - Captain Larry who then transferred us to Tesmco - what can I say

Ketchikan - Island Wings then Lois in Classic Cars - a great day out and they coped with us arriving over 2 hours late

 

oh and we saw the Northern Lights

 

Maybe I could have done different things with different providers. Maybe if I ever get back to Alaska I will (but I will always want to go with Larry and Michelle). But it was the best trip ever for excursions and it was all thanks to you great folks on CC :) :)

To those of you planning 2006 cruises, listen to what people say - especially budget queen!!

OK I will pop in from time to time to share experiences - if any one wants to ask questions go ahead. I am now off to the Baltics and Hawaii boards for 2006 :)

I have a new vender in Hoonah to recommend- Keith Skaflestad. I enjoyed an excellent day with him.

 

The orginal venders I spoke about- Orca Enterprises, Island Wings, Talkeetna Aero, Alaska Heritage tours- Kenai Fjords boat tours, Coastal Helicopters, TEMSCO, Southeast Aviation ARE CONSISTANTLY excellent getting rave reviews. There are many many others to consider so post on your favorites.

 

They have almost taken on a life of their own with all the wonderful recommendations- like a pyramid effect. :) Cruise Critic has also been significant in the growth and success of some businesses. I am a big advocate of supporting local businesses in Alaska, consider them perhaps??
