Glad to hear the person was rescued. It will be interesting to hear the story on this one. I'm sure an announcement form the cruise hating cruiselaw news guy will be forth coming on how it is the cruise lines fault this person went overboard.

You were right! I just went to the cruiselaw site and here's what was posted:

"The usual response we see when someone ends up in the water like this is to call him "stupid" and wonder how he survived the fall and not get sucked under the ship. But I always visualize a drunk overboard passenger's bar tab (i.e., a print-out of onboard purchases).

The most I have seen on a passenger's tab is 23 drinks in the course of around 5 hours. Serve that much booze to anyone and you are guaranteeing that something bad will happen. Unless it can be shown that the passenger smuggled a bottle of booze aboard, a bartender or group of bartenders who over-serve that mush alcohol to a passenger should be immediately fired. The passenger should be barred from the fleet.

There is a direct correlations between intoxication and violence, sexual assault and reckless conduct. Drunks flying over the rails is a clear indication that Carnival has a drinking problem on its cruise ships."

FB post from my friend on this sailing: "Update on yesterday's man overboard saga. It appears that he was having "fun" and decided to have more fun so he donned his life vest and took a swim. He was placed in the brig and was escorted off the ship this morning in Jamaica."

Oh my goodness! What an idiot! Where were his friends/family? I wished that someone would have helped him before he got to that point. Well at least he can't jump again or continue to ruin other peoples vacation!

That is absolutely ridiculous!! What happened to taking personal accountability for your actions? It isn't the car makers fault that we crash the vehicle they sell us, it isn't McDonald's fault that we get fat off a Big Mac diet, and it isn't the bartender's fault we drink until we're stupid enough to jump off a ship! URGH!!!

Sorry... and now I want a Big Mac. :)

Yeah, one idiot out of 2,000+ on board just one of a few dozen ships in a fleet isn't an indication that there is a fleet-wide problem. Yes, people will overindulge at times, but this situation is definitely the exception rather than the norm.

Maybe limit everyone to one drink a day? :eek:

<for the idiots I'm not serious>

It would be interesting to know if he had a lot of smuggled in alcohol in his cabin.

He could have just as easily bought the 2 bottles allowed by bon voyage and had a morning party. Nothing smuggled, and enough to get very very drunk by 8 am.

Either way, the guy put a life jacket on and jumped. I do hope Carnival charges him.
