Adonis change of itinerary

The problem as always is the contract. All the cruise lines give themselves lots of wriggle room to ensure they can alter the itinerary pretty much as they wish.

From P&O conditions.

ALTERATION AND CANCELLATION BY P&O CRUISES AFTER DEPARTURE

43. After departure, P&O Cruises does not guarantee that the ship will call at every port on the itinerary or follow every part of the advertised route or schedule or that every part of the Package will be provided. P&O Cruises reserves the absolute right to decide whether or not to omit any such port(s) and/or to call at additional ports and/or to change the advertised route, schedule or Package. If P&O Cruises is unable to provide a significant proportion of the Package, it will make suitable alternative arrangements, at no extra cost to the Passenger, for the continuation of the Package.

David.

After departure. That clause is entirely in P&O's favour, and quite reasonably so IMO, if the cruise destination is unavoidably changed after departure. But before departure, if they sell a cruise to the Orinoco and then give advance notice that they aren't going to the Orinoco, that is a major change of the contract terms and the passenger should be automatically entitled to get their money back, if they don't like the change.

That was exactly what happened to me on an Eclipse and Spitzbergen cruise, when Voyages of Discovery dropped the visit to Spitzbergen. We said "please may we have our money back", and got it by return. As appears to have happened with those P&O passengers who said Orinoco was a significant part of the holiday.

If the holiday had just been advertised as "Amazon and the Caribbean", with Orinoco as a subsidiary port, it would be a lot harder for the disappointed customers to get their money back if P&O didn't want to play.

We haven't heard that yet - it seems to me that customer service is now very low down on P&O's priorities. We were disappointed enough at losing some formal nights, and now the jacket required evenings are gone, too. Everything looks so special when people are dressed up a bit - we might as well book Easy Cruise. It looks as though we shall have to defect to Cunard if we want a bit of glamour.

Hoping that we will get a few more than 3 formal nights now. Can't think that we will get 18 smart casual. After all, we have enough sea days:cool:

Agree with disappointed comments & am also unimpressed with the manner in which P&O informed us. As previously stated, there seems to be no respect for loyal customers. The alternative ports are poor replacements for the original destinations & the changes will have financial implications as we will now need to book trips, despite having little interest in the options available. P&O response to my letter was patronising & unhelpful. Having booked the select price well in advance we feel very let down.

This thread gives an opportunity to vent but is somewhat useless given no response from P&O!

Surely the first-timers and irregular customers are suffering the same change? ;)

Can you quote the P&O reply? I'd be interested to know what they said.

Yes of course, disappointing for everyone, but all cruise lines rely on repeat business & this is not the way to go about getting it.

Not really worth posting the P&O reply, all just blah blah blah, & repeating how very delighted they are to be able to offer us an extended stay in a port we didn't want to go to......
