My friend and her husband are going to be on the Carnival Pride sailing on Oct 26 to Bermuda. I haven't been on this ship before and it's their first cruise. Any tips you can provide that I can share with them? I haven't been on carnival in over 10 years so figured I'd ask here for any tips, fun things to check out, dining, etc. thanks!

Where does that one leave from? I've never been to Bermuda and was thinking about going.

The Pride leaves from Baltimore ~ my homeport. Bermuda is beautiful. I suggest they do a beach excursion to the pink sand beaches; they are spectacular. Also, there is a glass blowing shop right there at Kings Wharf. Can't tell you how many times we went in just to sit and watch the artisans create beautiful pieces. Of course, we had to come home with a few pieces too.

Bermuda is really beautiful, but a bit more expensive than other ports. The upside is that you don't have all of the people native to the island hawking you every 10 seconds for taxi rides, hair braiding, etc.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but I can assure you that your time in Bermuda is not nearly enough. I mean, not even close, for me, to justify the cost of sailing to Bermuda. While I love the Spirit-class ships and really enjoyed my cruise on Pride, I simply wouldn't do this Bermuda cruise. You'll only have one afternoon and evening, in late October, really, which is already at the end of their "season." I'm not even sure the buses and ferries will be running in the evenings and taxi service is very expensive (plus, nothing will be open except restaurants!).

I did the 1-time Glory to Bermuda out of Norfolk in October 2011. We docked at 8 am and left at noon (or 1) the next day. There wasn't enough time to see even half the island in the full day unless you were on a tour and just drove the entire island.

With only the morning of the next day available, it was too risky to venture far from the Dockyard area.

So, I'm going back on Splendor on 10/23. You'll arrive at noon the day we depart.

We're there from 8 am on Monday until 4 pm on Wednesday and that STILL isn't enough time!

I know this isn't what you were wanting to read, and I'm sure you'll still have a good time. I just think there will be lots of people who will be disappointed with the amount of port time.

We're doing an 5-6 hr island tour (private excursion) after we arrive, then we're doing a sunset cruise that evening through Restless Native. I'm guessing they've been booked by Carnival (since they're offering the same excursion on Tuesday when we're there (for a higher cost, of course)). And there are bars/restaurants in the Royal Dockyard area to visit.

I'd ask over on the Bermuda board. Folks there are very helpful and can let you know what may be open that evening.

I've made many, many land vacations to Bermuda, and DH and me have sailed to Bermuda many times. It's my favorite island. I was just looking at the Carnival Pride Bermuda itineraries for next year. First off, we love leaving from Baltimore because we are 1 1/2 hours away. We just came off the Carnival Pride for the third time last Sunday. The Pride is a smaller ship in comparison to the mega ships of today. Very easy to get around.

If your friends prefer smaller ships; no climbing walls, bumping cars, or ice skating rinks, etc. then they may like the Pride. If they have children, it might not be the ship for them. The larger mega ships have more for families. The Serenity Deck is nice (adults only) if you can find a chair.

David's Steakhouse on the Pride is a great restaurant to try; I think it wa $30-$35 pp. The dining room was fine also. There is also a sushi restaurant just outside of the casino that we tried one day for lunch. It was very good and reasonable. If your friends like burgers, tell them to definitely try Guy's Burger's...yum!!

We've been cruising since the early 90's, so cruising has changed somewhat. We've cruised with most of the cruise lines though, and the Pride, for the money is a nice, fun ship. I hope your friends have a nice time. I hope they like Bermuda.

We really like the Pride.

We love the Bermuda beaches and do not do any touring just beach it every day in what is usually a 3 day stay. Since you are going in the fall, the water and weather will probably be a tad chilly but many other tour the island for other features and should be able to assist

OP, if you haven't already done so, join your Roll Call for the sailing. I'm sure the others on that sailing have lots of ideas.

To the others here, they are only in port from 1:30 pm on Wednesday until 1:30 pm on Thursday. Like I said, it's a very, very short stay.

They won't even be off the ship until after 2 pm!

Not sure Harbor Nights happens at that time of year in Hamilton, but that would be the one thing I'd want to do that evening. OK, Harbor Nights is over for the year, but they're having something called October Lights on Wednesday evenings on Front Street in Hamilton.

Thanks all! I am not going on this cruise. My friends are first time cruisers and have gone through a very difficult year with one of their sick children. They are just looking to get away and recharge after all they have been through recently.

I have been to Bermuda with Royal Caribbean and am going again next year with NCL. I'm really just looking for tips about the ship since I've never been on the Pride.

I know their stay will be short in Bermuda but they are just happy to be getting away!

Thanks for the tidbits! Is Guys Burgers and the sushi restaurant complimentary? They are going just themselves and it's their first cruise ever. I'm just trying to give them some ideas to make it more enjoyable!

Not sure how old your friend's children are, but they have something called Seuss at Sea. I think it's like brunch, but I'm not sure. That looked kind of cute.

Guy's Burgers is complimentary and Bonsai Sushi is not, but Bonsai had a huge serving of four different sushi (tuna, salmon and two others) served on a carved boat and it was $17.00 for two people. I think it was around 16-20 pieces plus a salad.

Carnival Pride is a fun, quirky ship that just went thru an overhaul last year and received several upgrades. Some folks take exception to the "décor", but it's never bothered us. As a couple trying to recharge and reconnect, I think they'll have a great time. The Serenity adults-only area has already been mentioned and it is definitely a place the wife and I enjoy hanging out. We also like the sun deck above the pool deck...you'll always find a couple of chairs without any problems (chair hogs are a HUGE issue around the pool). There's a putt-putt golf course as well, which kills a bit of time. We always like to participate in bingo and the quiz and trivia contests (the ship-on-a-stick prize is quite coveted). The comedy shows are usually funny but the production shows are hit and miss. David's steakhouse is worth doing at least one night. Hope they have a great time!

Thanks swodog! I'll be sure to pass this info along to them. They are really excited for their first cruise and to take time to just be with each other and enjoy the week. Serenity sounds like a great area for relaxation!
