newsycruiser Posted September 17, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 17, 2015 Totally unfamiliar with Alicante....I'm trying to figure out what time I need to be back at the port gates for a 4:00pm ship departure. Will I need to allow extra time to take some sort of shuttle from the gate to the pier? Grateful for any advice.........thanks
Morgans Posted September 17, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 17, 2015 When we docked at Alicante, it was a straight walk down to the town and didn't take very long. I seem to remember the town and the beach were very close. There is a pleasant walk along the promenade to shops, beach etc. I would imagine for a 4.00pm departure you would need to be back on board by 3.30pm? English_in_Spain Posted September 18, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2015 It depends what ship you are on. Very small ships dock right by the port gates. Larger ships dock at the main cruise port which is a short shuttle bus ride from the gates. The port gates are right by the marina, close to the beach and Esplanada de Espana (a delightful tree lined promenade). The centre of town (shops, museums etc) is only about 15 minutes walk away. As to what time to get the shuttle back to the ship, you would be best to ask while on board. They will tell you the time of the last shuttle bus. But, if you are like me, I always get back on board a bit for the latest time. I hope you enjoy your day in Alicante.

English_in_Spain Posted September 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2015 By the way, you should not have to pay for the shuttle bus. It is provided free by the port authority.
az_tchr Posted September 19, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Shuttle bus is a 5 minute ride. Never had to wait for more than 15 minutes for a shuttle there. 10 minute walk to downtown from where they drop you off. Alicante is one of the easiest ports to get in and out of.
