kate1970 Posted October 4, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2015 Is it possible on a 7am-5pm port day from Piraeus, to see the Acropolis, Greek Parliament and do a food/culinary tour? Port day is a Sunday. If anyone has done this or similar I would love to hear about it and some recommended tour guides.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted October 4, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 4, 2015 Is it possible on a 7am-5pm port day from Piraeus, to see the Acropolis, Greek Parliament and do a food/culinary tour? Port day is a Sunday. If anyone has done this or similar I would love to hear about it and some recommended tour guides. Get to the Acropolis early and spend about 2 hours there with a good guidebook before the worst of the crowds. Then you'll have plenty of time to see a few other things -- what those are is up to you. I'm not a huge one for food tours, so can't help you there. I can offer some DIY food suggestions, however. Near Syntagma Square (where the changing of the guard occurs), there is a wonderful place called Ariston Bakery that sells traditional Greek pies -- stuffed with various savory ingredients. They are a truly unique experience. Go in and pick out a few different kinds to share. More info on Ariston: http://www.culinarybackstreets.com/athens/2012/ariston/ Of course, everyone walks through the Plaka (at the base of the Acropolis) and finds a spot to sample souvlaki on Monastiraki street (known as the souvlaki street...) zqvol Posted October 4, 2015 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2015 No problem at all doing what you suggest, in fact you can easily see a lot more than you suggest. Get a good guide book such as Rick Steves and have fun.
Chairsin Posted October 10, 2015 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2015 Just did an all day food walking tour with Culinary Backstreets in Istanbul and could not have been more pleased. I would not hesitate to book one of their tours in the other cities, including Athens, where they operate. I thought I knew quite a bit about Turkish food beforehand but learned so much. You might see if they offer a half day tour in Athens.
