Transatlantic Tom Posted December 29, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2015 For those who have sailed aboard QM2 from Hamburg, how many hours does it take from sail away, cruising up the Elbe, until you get to the mouth of the river and enter the open waters of the North Sea ?? Thank you !
fg_hb Posted December 29, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2015 It's between three and four hours from Hamburg to the North Sea. In most times QM2 reaches open waters in darkness as most departures from Hamburg are in the evening. There are some good viewing points to watch QM2. The photo below I took direct at the line between North Sea and River Elbe. There QM2 was on the way to Hamburg.
cruiseluvva Posted December 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2015 Some years ago we did a round trip. We entered the river at 8pm and docked at Hamburg at 2am - with hundreds of thousands there to greet us! We left the following morning at 4am when there were almost as many to see us leave. Thank you ! 5 hours roughly. We sailed at just before 5.00 pm and were still at second sitting dinner when the Pilot disembarked. http://solentrichardscruiseblog.com/2013/10/11/queen-mary-2-scandinavian-explorer/ One of the best sailaways you will ever experience... Transatlantic Tom Posted December 30, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted December 30, 2015 Thank you all for your replies. We're sailing next June 21 - immediately after the refit at Blohm+Voss - and are looking forward to the long daylight as we sail from Hamburg. Beautiful photo, by the way !!
