Cabin upgrade and NCL Mastercard points

Getting close to my cruise trying to decide how best to use my points.

And then I got to looking at what constitutes an "upgrade." For example, 10k in points gets a 2 category upgrade...However, I cannot find anything that says what that is.

I have an OB cabin, so what would 2 categories get me?

I don't see a magic list of this room is better than this one and looking at the site all I can see is that there are two categories above OB that move to a "family room"...E.g. a room with fold down beds...

Because there is also the 4 category upgrade for 20k...

Would 20k get me to a Balcony? Because there is also the 30k option which is oceanview to balcony or inside to oceanview...

Any help would be great, because it looks like OBC now, because it would have been better to go bottom rung Oceanview, 30k in points to balcony...But then again I am just kinda confused on this anyway.

yes you would need 30K to move from oceanview to balcony or you can use 30K for $300 OBC or toward the cost of the cruise.

How much would it be for you to upgrade to balcony room now? if it more than $300 i would just use the point.

I have an OB cabin, so what would 2 categories get me? 2 categories would just get you a category 01 oceanview stateroom which would not be a good use of points.

The 10,000 points for two category upgrade and 20,000 points for four category upgrade are for stateroom changes within the same stateroom "meta" ( trade for "better" interior, oceanview or balcony stateroom location ). Better usually means location, may also mean obstructed or unobstructed view, connecting or not connecting stateroom. You can use a site such as drag it decks to check out the deck plans and see what is above and below cabin you are interested in.

You would need 30,000 points to move one meta (cross meta upgrade is inside to oceanview or oceanview to balcony and 60,000 points to move two metas (double cross meta upgrade is inside to balcony. NCL determines the category of stateroom you can change to (on one ship we could pick aft facing balcony, on others it wasn't allowed).

Any help would be great, because it looks like OBC now, because it would have been better to go bottom rung Oceanview, 30k in points to balcony...But then again I am just kinda confused on this anyway.

Don't use your points for OBC. If you are not ready to "spend them" let them add up. I'm not sure what the time frame is for doing the meta upgrade but if you have 30,000 points and want to go from oceanview to balcony give NCL a call. It helps to have an idea what balcony or at least what category balcony you are interested in before you call. Ask to be connected to someone who can reprice your cruise using the NCL Worldpoint cross meta upgrade. If you don't already have two perks promo you might get that changed too (currently two perks for oceanview and balcony). You do have to pay gratuity on the beverage and dining perks but they are still a good deal if you drink and eat :)

I finally have a PCC at NCL that I love but she cannot help with the Cross Meta or Double Cross Meta upgrades. For our Panama Canal cruise next February I booked an oceanview stateroom through my PCC, then called NCL and asked for a Worldpoint specialist who repriced our cruise using 60,000 points and we ended up paying for a category IB inside for a category BB (our choice) balcony. Huge $$ savings.

Is there a place that lists out these ladders?

Kinda interesting finding about the ladders of rooms.

On the Dawn there are 7 categories of oceanview staterooms -

highest to lowest

01

OA

OB

OF

OK

OG

OX (guaranty)

Go on NCL website, pull up cruise, pick oceanview, then click on the + signs to open the various category listings so you can see location, brief description and the category "number".

Whoa, two perk for Ocean view? I only have one...I choose pre-paid gratuities...and didnt get a second one...

Is there a great site for all these perks? I thought here is a great source of info, but Damn, if I dont know the right question, cannot get the correct answer.

I am booked with an OB (ocean view-mid) with pre-paid gratuities, on the Dawn May 1st out of NOLA...

Any deals that anyone knows of that I could be missing or add to it?

Did you look at the NCL website ?? All of the information is on their website. Here is link for you. This link should take you to the Freestyle Choice promo that ends in 5 days.

https://www.ncl.com/promo/wave15

Prepaid gratuities are no longer a promo option. If you cancelled and rebooked to take advantage of the new freestyle choice promo you would lose that perk. The daily service charge is now $13.50 per person.

The beverage package requires paying $80.64 per person for the week in beverage gratuity and the 4 meal specialty dining package requires paying $13.32 per person for the week in dining gratuity. These charges would be included on your cruise invoice.

Beverage and Dining promos are for the first two occupants in stateroom.

Did you book through a travel agent? If so you can call them to discuss your cruise and options. You are outside NCL's cancellation penalty period so if you were booked direct could cancel and rebook without penalty but some travel agencies have their own charges for either changes or cancellations.

I booked through at TA and wouldn't have a problem, but I think the Prepaid is a better deal still.

The Pre-paid comes out to about $200 for the two of us, the bev and dining would be free, but would cost about $200 extra. And I am a water and tea person, may do the teppenyaki thanks to a new glowing review, otherwise I am good with the dining.

Now if they could do bev and pre-pays...that would be awesome. lol...

I think I am just going to go with either continue to save points for another year and get in super cheap then upgrade...Called them and they can do the points up to one day prior to sailing. So that gives me plenty of time.

  • 1 month later...

Does anyone know if you can use your WCP to go from a mini suite to a Haven?

I am sailing 8/2017 to Bermuda currently booked into a Mini-Suite, but would love to go to Haven balcony room.

Thanks

No unfortunately suites aren't included in the upgrade program

I am not sure if you could use a double cross meta to go from an OV to a mini though. I have only used it to go from an inside to a balcony which saved us over $2,000!
