Hobar Posted February 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Has anyone taken an excursion to DMZ? We will be having a couple of port stops in S. Korea and are considering a day trip yo DMZ. someotherguy Posted February 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2016 Yes, I've been to the DMZ, but not from a ship--I was on a land visit. It's very interesting, but also serious and sobering. Any hotel can sign you up for a tour but you need to allow 2 days for clearance. You need to be smartly dressed, "no jeans, no Adidas" and must observe certain rules of behaviour: no pointing at the North Korean soldiers, no photos in certain places. You have to sign a form accepting responsibility for “injury or death as a direct result of enemy action" and there'll be a ROK soldier with a machine gun in the bus with you. There are two basic half-day tours: Panmunjom and the Third Tunnel (Google them). You can combine them for a full day. Panmunjom is by far the most interesting, but it's worth doing both. Hobar Posted February 13, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted February 13, 2016 Thank you both. Since we are coming from a ship and not staying in a hotel, we will do the research to make arrangements in advance to make sure we go. davidfsjr Posted February 18, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 18, 2016 +1 for Koridoor. Did it a few years ago, they work with and from the USO and I have heard they have the best access to the DMZ
Hobar Posted March 4, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) Anyone know if cruise ships arrange DMZ tour? Anyone hear of the DMZ with Viator? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited March 4, 2016 by Hobar
galeforce9 Posted March 4, 2016 #9 Share Posted March 4, 2016 The best bit is the jsa (joint security area) element. Right up to the border. To do this you need to supply passport details beforehand and it takes a lot of organisation. These tours can be cancelled for weeks on end if tensions run high. Like now. Doubt very much that cruise ships would get involved but could be wrong.
