Time in Port on Summit

I have a question related to the actual time that we need to be back to the ship for one of our port days. We are being met by a friend in St Lucia. The ship information says we will be in Port from 8 AM to 5 PM. What does that really mean in terms of when we could meet her in the morning and what time we have to be back to the ship in the afternoon?

Unless there is a reason for you to be late arriving (weather is usually the cause), the ship will always begin disembarking by the time they note. If I was meeting someone, I'd err on the side of caution and plan to meet at 9 am.

For the return, you must be on board 30 minutes prior to departure time. If you are off with a friend and are delayed, the ship will NOT wait for you. (Different scenario if you're on a ship's excursion.)
