Venice Disembarkation

Has anyone had any experience about the process of disembarking in Venice? Is it a similar procedure to that in North America? I have done it once before, but since that cruise overnighted in Venice, people were getting off the ship as early as 5AM.

 

The scheduled docking time is 7am - we will be attending a family wedding about one hour away from Venice on the same day, and do not want our relatives to have to fight the hordes of traffic at the Venice port, so we plan on taking the train instead. Any information would be appreciated - thank you.
