has anyone docked at the Kai Tak dock in Hong Kong? this is at the old airport. questions: what kind of shuttles were there and what did they cost? were taxis plentiful and what did it cost to go to nearest MTR station or star ferry terminal? thank you so much.

There are free shuttles that run from the cruise terminal to some nearby shopping malls. We usually take the one to the Hollywood Mall as there is a metro station under the mall so it is very convenient. Sometimes they have offered free metro passes to the first fifty or so passengers each day and I was able to grab one of them once.

We were on Volendam and it secured at Kai Tak on March 31,2016. The port provided a free shuttle to Kwun Tung MTR station. It operated about every 20 minutes depending on traffic. The shuttle also took you back to the ship but if more than 1 ship is in port the bus got crowded with long wait lines especially closer to all-aboard time so keep that in mind when you want to return to the ship.

To get on the Volendam on March 31, 2016 we took a taxi from our hotel to Kia Tak at a cost of 100 Hong Kong $$. Our hotel was near the star ferry terminal.

Hi, we bought a hop on hop off bus ticket from the ship, and included was a free coach transfer to the start of the HOHO near the star ferry by the Ferris wheel. They had a return transfer coach that ran every half an hour so it turned out to be very good value really. This was a few weeks ago and there is an enormous amount of infrastructure changes and building and roadworks in the area so the trip to the star ferry area took much longer than usual with traffic congestion , like way over an hour. The metro would be a better option if you don't need the bus tour and can get a free shuttle to the shopping centre.

BTW other passengers told me they had trouble getting a taxi back to the ship as they didn't want the one way fare. So allow extra time for the return just in case.

I found this calculator to be quite helpful. Fare quoted from Kai Tak to the Star Ferry is $101 HKD. Our fare was less than estimated, but we travelled at a quieter traffic time during the day. We went from TST to the terminal so I am not able to say how plentiful taxis were at Kai Tak. Friends took the shuttle back to the closest Metro Station from the ship and were pleased with the efficiency. The Metro system is fabulous. As is Hong Kong. Hope you enjoy it!
