Restrictions? OBC for Next Cruise Certificate

Recommended Posts

We have been given far more OBC than we can possibly use. Can we use OBC to purchase Next Cruise Certificates? If so, what is the best way to use Next Cruise (the program keeps changing and I'm so confused).

In the 'old' days I'd select a cruise and then change it later, but I don't think that is possible anymore without losing OBC. IF I select a future cruise and the price drops, can I still get price drops? Finally, If I select a future cruise do I need to know BOTH passenger names or can I leave one name blank?

First World Problem I realize (given the events of last night I feel somewhat guilty even asking this).

Thank you in advance.

In the 'old' days I'd select a cruise and then change it later, but I don't think that is possible anymore without losing OBC. It is supposedly possible to change at least once without losing OBC and maybe more. Not enough reports at this point to confirm. IF I select a future cruise and the price drops, can I still get price drops? Yes. Finally, If I select a future cruise do I need to know BOTH passenger names or can I leave one name blank? You can leave the second name blank, but I would not do that. Better to pick a name and change it later so they don't have a reason to re-price the cruise if you add the second name later.

See above in RED.

Thank you so much Bob, you are always extremely helpful and it is much appreciated. What if the OBC is a gift from our travel agent? Can we use it for Next Cert then?

To my knowledge, you can only use a credit card to create a new booking, which is what a Next Cruise cert is.

if the obc is for a cruise you already have booked, that you think is more than you will use- then go to customer service and ask them to give you any obc that has no fees.

(there are 2 kinds of obc- some you are entitled to in full-others have a surcharge)

Use the rest to pay your gratuities, and if you still have a lot left- the 3% or 5% fee is negligible vs losing it all. (same as getting cash in the casino against your account)

then you can purchase another next cruise booking if you choose, on your credit card-and put the money you just got back in the bank to pay for it .

hope that helps.

If you do a next cruise certificate you do not have to put both mp names on it. You can use one name only and only put a $100 deposit.

Thanks to Patti, Cruisenfever, for the following post about Next Cruise booking deposits/OBC. Deposit amounts and OBC changed effective March 6, 2015

Next Cruise OBC can be used on the cruise you are on or the future cruise you are booking.

The deposit will be nonrefundable and will be equal to the amount of onboard credit you get. If you elect to apply the OBC to the cruise being booked, then the deposit will be refundable if you cancel prior to final payment.

The deposits and OBC are now determined by number of nights and cabin category:

•5-7 night cruises

◦Interior/Oceanview: $50

◦Balcony/Junior Suite: $100

◦Grand Suite and above: $200

•8-10 night cruises

◦Interior/Oceanview: $100

◦Balcony/Junior Suite: $150

◦Grand Suite and above: $300

•11-14 night cruises

◦Interior/Oceanview: $150

◦Balcony/Junior Suite: $200

◦Grand Suite and above: $400

•15 nights or longer cruises

◦Interior/Oceanview: $200

◦Balcony/Junior Suite: $250

◦Grand Suite and above: $500

NOTE: Grand Suites and above no longer require a double deposit per person.
