RoperDK Posted July 23, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 23, 2016 Has anyone stayed at the Inn at Whittier? It looks lovely. I know there isn't much to do there except for the glacier cruises, which we are interested in. Just wondered if this would be a good option. We would travel to Whittier the day before our cruise departs and go on one of the glacier cruises. Spend the night at the hotel and leisurely head to the ship the next day. I haven't seen anyone talk about doing this. Thanks in advance, Dawn
mapleleaves Posted July 23, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 23, 2016 (edited) Use SEARCH THIS FORUM and do the search on "inn at whittier". This will pull up old posts, such as this trip report from BrusselsGirl; two couples from Australia who did b2b cruises and land travel which included a 2 night stay in Whittier. She includes photos of Whittier and their day cruise on the Lazy Otter. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2093748&highlight=inn+at+whittier&page=4 You might to do a similar search on the Alaska forum of tripadvisor. RoperDK Posted July 24, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted July 24, 2016 Thanks mapleleaves! I did use the search feature but didn't find the great trip report from BrusselsGirl. It sounds like the Inn at Whittier might be a good option. Hopefully, there are others that have stayed there pre cruise and can add their experiences. Thanks again, Dawn
Chenega Posted July 24, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2016 We've stayed there several times. Other than June's Bed and Breakfast in the Begich Towers and the Anchor Inn, the Inn at Whittier is pretty much the only game in town. Be sure to get a waterfront/ocean view room since the mountain view also includes the parking lot, a gas station, and tracks from the Alaska Railroad. They have a decent restaurant which has varied in quality over the years but there are a few other few choices in town including the Swiftwater Cafe, Wild Catch Cafe, and a Chinese restaurant. The Inn can be rather noisy when a cruise ship comes in at midnight but that only happens twice a week. The day cruises are right next door. I think the prices are too high but that is very common throughout the state during the tourist season.
kguth125 Posted July 25, 2016 #5 Share Posted July 25, 2016 Stayed there in June and we loved it. Fun waking up at midnight and seeing the ship docked right in front of you. We had the suite facing the water and it was great. Staff was great. We would stay there again if we sail from Whittier! KG in Tennessee
