Glory Review 10-22- 10-29

What better way to judge a mattress than to sleep on it for one week before buying it? Sounds like a great idea to me.
All it is...is marketing. Guest sleep on bedding and would like to know what the product is. This way, the information is given to them and the producer has a chance to make a profit. The same goes for the bathrobes and spa products. I don't know if Carnival, Westin, etc. get any profits out of this marketing or not. My DH loves the Westin "Heavenly" bedding and we came real close to ordering their mattress, but instead went with the Tempurpedic.

a cruise is a cruise and I still had a great time, I would take the Zuiderdam over the Glory but both were fun in their own ways. :)

We didn't care too much for the Oosterdam, so I am not sure we will like the Glory. However, we are looking to save money and just have a good time with our young adult children. ;)

Now, where is that review from theone1980?

I am interested in this review also. We just booked the Glory in January. I will read the review, but with the understanding that you can have 100 people doing the same thing and they will ALL have a completely different outlook on what they experienced. There were people who complained about the Inspiration, we were on the same cruise and had NONE of the problems they had - wondered if they were really on the same cruise! Some people just seem to look for (or at least really notice) every issue imaginable. Maybe troubles are attracted to them? Must be tough going through life dissappointed all the time.

The above notwithstanding, I eagerly await to hear what they have to say about our future home away from home! :)

I don't care what anyone says, the Glory is a great ship and we're sailing on it again for the 3rd time in May. We have been on 34 cruises on all types of ships, large and small, 3 day cruises up to 11 days cruises, different cruise lines and have loved each and every cruise! No matter how great the ship is someone is always going to find something they don't like. So what if there are a few stains on the hall carpet? Have you looked at your own carpet lately? And if the decor is not up to your liking then consider this --- maybe your friend's house is not decorated like you would decorate - SO WHAT!!! You're on a cruise, being waited on, over-fed, pampered and hopefully having the time of your life. As are as the crew not being friendly - we've always found that if you treat them like you want to be treated they will return the favor and make your cruise memorable.

Okay - I'm off my soap box now! I could go on and on but I have to get back to work to pay for my next cruise (that IS the only reason I get up in the morning and go to work)! Can't wait to see the review - bring it on!

UNTIL THE GLORY IN MAY WITH MY PARTY PALS - WOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOO!

Oh, I will bring it on. I just turned back on my computer this morning and saw all the replies. I have not finished proofing and rewriting my review. May take some time. I am on trial again. Oh, I agree the Glory is a beautiful ship, but it was not for me. Get that phrase not for ME!!!!. I love the cruise director Shawn, I don't know anything about this John person, but I thought she was the best. You ever hear the phrase different strokes for different folks. Everyone at some point in time is going to not like everything at the same time. With that being said, I can get off my soapbox. Our cabins steward and I got into a fight, because our sheets and pillowcases were dirty as hell on the last night. Deck 2 in the back smell like all be damn. Up in the Red Sail what is that with a table for 2 being in the middle or the aisle? I loved that the captain took us to Nassau, St. Thomas and San Juan love those ports. Will try to get the review done today. If not if anyone has any reasonable questions email me. Again, I will not sail the Glory, if even they gave it to me FREE

I've been on the Glory once before, and am going again next May. I like the layout of the ship, it is just like the Victory and Triumph, if you've been on/seen those two. I've never felt over crowded or cramped on a cruise or had bad service with Carnival, but maybe I've just been lucky to have all wonderful experiences. Anyway, it's vacation- better than work any day!

The last cruise I took, there was a note in the cabin that they changed the sheets every two days and if you didnt want your towels washed, hang them up otherwise they will only take the ones on the floor.

That being said, if the sheets were dirty as hell what the heck did you do to them? :p

I hate to read not so favorable reviews before going on a cruise but I now know cruising is not for everyone.

First of all, I would like to say, that I am glad I was able to cruise during this week and pray for all those in Key West, Cozumel and Belize and hope those places can be restored. On that note, I can start with my review. We did not know where we were going until Friday afternoon. I was informed through the people I was going with me and my TA that we were going to Nassau, St. Thomas and San Juan. (YIPEE):D We arrived in Florida on Friday evening, and stayed at the Best Western which was nice the rooms were clean and we had no problems. Arrived at Port Canaveral at around 11:00 and the place were already jumping. I do not care for how they have that setup where so many cars pull up into a hull like and unload, you can only unload 4 to 5 cars at one time. The line was pretty long, but it moved quickly. I have been on several cruises before, so I knew about the embarkation and what the process was like, but again Carnival failed when it did not have all the lines open. Luckily the line open up just as we were leaving the scanning process and was able to check in and show our documents What a surprise that I received a Gold Card this time. The ship was beautiful I cannot lie, but the crew members on the Glory did not have a clue to where things were or how to get to them, they pointed us in the wrong direction on several occasions and was just plain rude at times. I noted this on my comment sheet and hope that this problem will be addressed. Luckily we were on the Main deck forward. Thank god, because the Main deck aft was heinous, the smell down that way was gross, it is either the carpet has been water damaged or the sewer system is down there. I don’t know, but going to dinner in the Platinum Dining room we had to pass this part every day, and it was pretty horrible. Many people complained but there was no place to go since the ship was sold-out. We went to our rooms at about 12:30 and they were ready and was greeted by our cabin steward Pelard who was so, so. He was kind of snippy and by the end of the cruise, we both exchanged some words, will get back to that later in the review. The rooms were clean, but boy did is suck, I did not like how the beds were like side by side, with a lamp in the middle. I was on the Imagination last year and like how those rooms were set up. I did not think that those cabins need a couch area and table in the room. It made the room much smaller and looked weird with these big orange couches in the room. Get rid of these Carnival the rooms are little enough without the exact do dad’s the rooms are made for sleeping and not staying in your room all, if you wanted a room like that, I would have booked a suite to accommodate if I wanted to be in the room all day. I like the mini fridge, but was informed by the cabin steward that he could not empty it, but would be around on Friday to make sure everything was still in it. Again, Carnival if you want to give me a fridge, I want it empty to put my stuff in it. Don’t tell me to empty it and take up space in the cabin that I need. Not smart planning. The shower water was nice in hot, but it appeared to me the bathroom was a just a little bit smaller than the Imagination’s one. Again, I did not like the room. Had friends in balcony rooms, did not like any of them at all either. What is up with the balcony door not sliding open? Again, dumb and poor planning on Carnival. Let’s just say the Glory is not a ship that I really like, the ship was beautiful, but it is not a ship I would sail again.

Dinner was great, Carnival has improved a lot in the food department, our waitress and busgirl. Veletta (Vee) and Anu were great. I wrote a very good review for those two girls, they worked there butts off to make sure that everything was great. They were great to chat with and made sure I had food sent to me when I got sick, more on that later in the review.

The cruise director Shawn I thought was great, I think I read on the boards that the permanent one on this ship was on vacation. Did not miss that person, for she was great. The shows were okay, I really like the Comedian and the Illusionist (magician). The Illusionist was the best to me. The “Glory dancers” some of those girls need to go on a serious diet. I not saying I am a size 0, or that you have to be one, but some of the girls had fat hanging out on the sides of their little bitty costumes and at one point one of the male dancers could not lift the girl because she was too heavy. As my father would say “push away from the table”. All in the all the shows were okay, the same mess I have seen on all Carnival ships with the exceptions of the Illusionist (magician) and Comedian.

The Lido deck was fine and we were always able to find chairs and lounge chairs. Who great idea was it to put the hot tubs behind the stage, ingenious, smart Carnival, dumb as hell to me. They looked stupid sitting in the hot tub and took away from the stage, the stage should have been at that spot so that everyone could see and not have to crowd around the front and in front of people for the ice craving show. Again, poor planning on whoever set that up. All in all the Lido deck was fine. The ship in it self was fine except you had to remember which floor went though and which didn’t, by day two we had figure that all out.

Ports

I like Key West, Cozumel and Belize, but I was glad we were not going to those ports, and was very happy with Nassau, St. Thomas and San Juan. This was the first and only cruise that would go to San Juan. All future cruises would go to St. Maarten. But because other ships were going to St. Maarten the captain got us into San Juan. The ship’s crew was happy because they had not been to San Juan, not that ship anyway. (YES!!!!)

I have been to all three ports before, so it was great to go again, my only drawback was Nassau and St. Thomas. Why go to Nassau on a Sunday? Those people are very religious and go to Church on Sunday, so the straw market and lot of the stores were closed down for the day. We should have had a day at sea and visit another port in its place. We just went to the Atlantis Hotel and did out our tour with a driver for about $12.00 dollars a person. St. Thomas, was great but for the tour, It was called the Ultimate Island Tour, but believe me there was nothing ultimate about it. People are now writing and complaining to Carnival about this tour. Beware, the tour takes you up in the mountain and to the beach which was great, it then takes you to Bluebeard’s Castle which is a self tour the guide give you a map you visit some houses and that is it. You have to find your own way back to the ship. Another cab ride of about 3 to 4 dollars per person. Carnival does not tell you that in the description when promoting this tour. Lot of people were upset and complained about it the rest of the day on the ship. Some of the island people felt that we got ripped off by Carnival so some of them drove us back to the ship. My letter to Carnival’s complaint department is in the mail. If anyone else did that tour I hope your is in the mail as well.

San Juan was great, went on a tour and then just walked around and shopped. Found the outlets and brought a nice handbag and other items. Visited Pigeon Park and Bay. Great photos. In all, the three islands were great. But boy they very hot and humid from the storms.

Now this is the part, which Carnival has now lost me, and I may not cruise with them again. On the night of the Captains ball, everything was crazy and not very well planned out. I saw nothing in the capers or heard announcement for the beginning of the captain ball. We missed the introductions of the crew, which I really enjoy. I can part blame Carnival and the other part me. I was very sick that day and the ship rocked back and forth for over 24 hours. I was sick to my stomach. At one point, I went to get into bed and slid, across my bed and landed in between the beds and the nightstand. I hurt my elbow (which required three stitches) and my left ear. I saw the blood and freaked out and went to the doctor’s office which required the stitches. Go figure, I have never been hurt on a ship before, but of course a accident report had to be fillout. The next day a representative came around to make sure I was fine. Fine, but swore the rest of the cruise, I am going to my doctor’s office on Monday to have him look at my elbow.

The rest of the week was a breeze, but because of the hurricanes the ship rocked like a mother hubbard. I have not been on a ship that rocked that much in all my life and by Wednesday, I almost booked a fight out of St. Thomas for home. My family and friends talked me out of it, but of course I would almost regret that decision because those two days at sea, were brutal. People were tired and sick and just tired from rocking for almost 48 hours. I wish they would have picked another port just to block out those two days at sea.

All in all the cruise was okay, it could have been better, I know you are saying, be glad that your cruise, and I am glad that we did. But I think that the Glory was not the ship for me. It felt too old and the place was just plain boring, also there were a lot of kids, more kids than I am use to cruising with. I mean babies up to and including teenagers. By 11:00 the place was empty. If you were not in the casino or in the disco the ship was dead and I mean dead. I did find some friends who partied with us and had a darn good time. On one night, we were until the sun came up. The best day of the cruise.

My take on the Glory, I would not cruise her again, I felt the ship was not up to my par. By Saturday, I wanted to get the hell out and did the self assist and was off the ship by 8:30 a.m. I did not even go up stairs to the Lido deck for breakfast, did not want it wanted to get the hell off. I also forgot some highlights. The last day of the ship the ship did a 30 degree dive, meaning it dip way to the right making all the water in the pools and hot tubs go on deck and dishes dropping in the kitchen and people looking scared out of their minds. Funny at the time, but not funny to those were genuinely scared, but thanks to a good captain he was able to steer through that storm. YEPS!.

Sorry, folks I am done with Carnival was going on a cruise in December and I have cancelled that cruise. I am looking into other cruise lines. I have run my course with Carnival. The Glory to me on a scale of 1 to 10 the Glory gets a 4.5 from me. Any questions, I will take on and answer anyone. Oh, the Palard fight, I asked him for some towels on Saturday morning and he mumbled something under his breath, I was not in the mood so I let him have it with both barrels. I asked for two towels, because our room had not been cleaned up the night before because my roommate was sick. I said something to him the day before, because the pillowcases was dirty and smelled funny as was the sheets from the night before, when they supposedly cleaned our room. Thanks to everyone for their reviews, hope this one help another person and prepares them for the Glory, I have heard the good and bad, but for me it was just so-so. For all of those who love the Glory, more power to you, I did not like her and that is my personal opinion. Not trying to reflect any of my views on anyone, but again this was not the Ship for me. Any questions, will answer.

I had the same thought. I like that they try to conserve water by reducing the number of times they wash towels and sheets. I have NO problem reusing our bath towels - we hang those up and only put the washcloths on the floor. And as far as the sheets - I'm fine with them not washing them all week if that's what they want to do - I don't wash my sheets at home more than once a week, so I don't expect it on a cruise. I remember one person complaining here last year because - the HORROR - they didn't give her new sheets each DAY. I seriously doubt she washes her sheets daily at home. Some people are just looking for something to bee ticked off about.

Thanks for taking the time to write your review. Sorry you were sick - not fun at all. I have a stomach of steel, but seriously think I might have had problems too based on your reports! YIKES!

I do have a few questions as we are deciding on travel arrangements prior and excursions:

1) Did you stay at the Best Western in Port Canaveral? And was it expensive? We are going to fly into Orlando day before, rent a car and stay in PC - Raddisson sounds good, but would rather save my $$ for foo foo drinks on board.

2) Nassau is why my honey wants this itinerary. How much time did you have there and would you recommend Atlantis? We are only scheduled 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

3) Thanks for input on St. Thomas excursion. Will keep this in mind when we plan

4) We have a balcony guarantee, may change to a selected room. What room were you in?

Again, sorry it wasn't for you. Passing no judgement here - I know all about "Different Strokes . . . " We spend all our discressionary income on making a couple of cars go fast for 10 seconds or so. LOL (drag racing) Most people think we are nuts! And there are many days I would have to agree with them. ;)

Sorry you didn't enjoy the Glory. I was waiting to read your report because we are sailing first time Carnival on the Glory in December. But after reading your report there is nothing there that would make me change my mind about going on the Glory. We sailed ruff seas in May on RCI, they were placing barf bags around the ship, and that would not make me stop cruising RCI, just would cruise a different time down the East coast to Bermuda. We like the idea of a couch in the room so I guess that won't bother us either. Only change the sheets once a week at home, so that won't bother us also. We have sailed older ships then the Glory so I guess that won't bother us, we are going to have a good time, and sometimes we have to make those ourselves and just ignor some of the little things.

Sailed the Glory on her 10/8 sailing and did not experience the problems you did. Occasionally there was a smell throughout the hall ways and in certain areas but it is my understanding that this is true of most ships.

Sounds to me more like you had a bad attitude:mad: due to the weather and getting sick than anything Carnival did. If you had a bad attitude I understand why people around you gave you an attitude back.

As far as the illusionist I am glad it was one of your favorites but I thought it absolutely stunk.

When we sailed our cabin was cleaned twice a day with frest towels, floor vacumed, and fresh ice in our ice chest. I would definetly sail the Glory again but will probably try another Carnival ship next time just for a different experience.

Oh yeah, and I do believe that the weather can affect your cruise. We had sunny skies and smooth sailing the entire week.

Wow...interesting cruise. Here are my thoughts...if your bored on a cruise, thats your own fault. I never cruise during hurricane season even though hurricanes travel at something like 14 knots and cruise ships can out run them at 22 knots, the choppy waves are another problem. Bad though that you fell out of bad and suffered injuries.

I can't blame a cruise line for bad weather...they do the best they can to accomodate this.

I can't really comment on your other things. After the 3rd paragraph I was wondering if you were going to complain that the baseboards weren't dusted. ;) (Thats just my sarcasm, pay no mind)

1) Did you stay at the Best Western in Port Canaveral? And was it expensive? We are going to fly into Orlando day before, rent a car and stay in PC - Raddisson sounds good, but would rather save my $$ for foo foo drinks on board. Yes, at Port Canaveral room came out to $69.00 dollars got a discount through my job.

2) Nassau is why my honey wants this itinerary. How much time did you have there and would you recommend Atlantis? We are only scheduled 8:30 am - 4:00 pm. Stayed at the Atlantis for about 1 hour or more, not sure.

3) Thanks for input on St. Thomas excursion. Will keep this in mind when we plan

4) We have a balcony guarantee, may change to a selected room. What room were you in? Was toward the front of the ship M2279.

Hope that helps.

Did not have a funky attitude about cruising. Hell I have been planning this damn cruise for over a year. Other people in my group became sick as well over 45 of us traveled from all over. Just not my cup a tea. As for the sheets, they were the sheet with blood over them, when I fell and was bruised and battered up. Stevie Wonder could have saw the damn blood. As I said the ship is not for everyone, and that was not for me. Just plain and simply, will not justify my opinion to anyone. And yes, I have cruised during rough seas in October, expected it. But not like that one.

Thanks for the review. I felt like you did regarding my Conquest cruise. I feel this type of ship is entirely too big and the magic of cruising simply can't be felt on board these beheamouths. The Conquest turned me off to Carnival for now, but I may sail them again if I find an itinerary and ship that I like. I really loved my crusies on the Jubilee, Inspiration and Imagination.

Really sorry you had a bad cruise and crappy weather. We just cruised on the Fantasy during Hurricane Wilma but were extremely lucky as far as the weather. But as I always say. feed me, pick up after me, entertain me, take me to a tropical island, let me sip as many "tinis" and mojitos as I can drink without falling off the bar stool and I'm a happy camper! Am I not right Newsgirl?

Not trying to judge you. You did have a few positive remarks, but it just seems to me that you had a bad attitude from the minute you walked onto the ship. I also know that a sentence can be interpreted different ways, I have probably done so. When I read your review I hear a lot of yelling and definitely cursing. Was it really that bad? Again, different strokes:)

Thank you for your thoughts. Some of the things you mentioned would bother me, and others would not. We were on the Coral Princess at the same time and our ship was rocking also. It's to be expected when you have a hurricane and tropical storm out in the Caribbean at the same time. Luckily, no one in our party became ill or was injured. In fact, it was the first cruise in the last 4 cruises that my father didn't fall or slip. So sorry you were hurt.

Could you tell me what category of stateroom you were in?

We love the big ships, so we should be OK with the Glory.

Hi All...

I was also on the 10/22 sailing on the Glory and had a GREAT time.

From the moment I stepped off the transfer bus from the airport until I stepped a foot into my room was 25 minutes! I was quite impressed it went so quick as my friends cruised on the Valor 2 weeks prior and had about a two hr wait with people passing out. We had a balcony cabin on the Panorama deck. We were quickly greeted by out cabin steward and asked that we had ice available at all time and asked for the refridg to be opened and emptied so we could put in our own pop and juice that we had brought from home. He opened it and told us we could put the stuff in the drawer. We never got around to it that afternoon and that evening we found that he emptied out the shelf for us and put our drinks in to get cold. Our room was always clean and taken care of.

Once you realize that floor 5 (promenade) and 9 (lido) were the two decks that went all the way across the ship you have no problems getting around. We were only one floor up from the lido deck so it was very convienent for food, drinks, and activities. Great location.

We had picked a 6:15 pm dinner time, but found that we were assigned a 8:30pm time, so off to the dining hall to change the time. Unfortunately we never did get changed to 6:15pm, but he did give us a 5:45pm dinner time. (I guess our 5 dollar tip wasn't enough..lol). Overall, the earlier time wasn't that bad. We just needed to be ready for 5pm when there were parties we wanted to go to such as the capt's party and the past guest party. (gotta get the free drinks!) :) We had no problems at all in knowing when these functions started. Our carnival capers listed the time of the capt's party. Although I do have to admit that thoughout the week there were ALOT of typo errors in the capors. Ex: One was titled "Wed Oct 26th" San Juan day and the next day was titled "Thurs Oct 26th" A fun day at sea. Along with other typos where it would list a function as being at 1pm in one part of the caper and at 1:30pm in another part. These were not such a big deal with me.

Our table in the Platinum dining room was nice. We had a table for two with nice people around us. Our waiter, bus boy and drink girl were all great and took care of any request that we had. The dining room is in need of an update as it had alot of stains on the chairs and the furniture and carpeting are worn. Those are some of the things they are replacing during the dry dock in January. (along with re-doing some of the smaller rooms). The food was always good. Didn't have anything bad. Only had desert two times and they were yummie. We ate in the dining room every night except St.Thomas as we returned to the ship too late.

We never made it to any of the late night R rated comedian shows, but heard they were good. I thought the typical "las vegas" shows were also good. I on the other had did not care for the illusionist!! I thought he stunk. Perhaps because I was sitting way up at the top and could see how some of the things were being done... .I dunno?! I just didn't care for it and almost walked out.

As for rough seas....... our capt took off from Port Canaveral in front of Wilma and drove like crazy toward the east. The ship had a rougher ride that night to it but to me it was not that bad. (I get sea/car sick easy and didnt' once get sick on this ship!! Not even a twinge of sickness!!) I attibute alot of it to the ship being so big and able to handle the rougher rides. I thought most of the week it was quite calm. That last day where the big ol' storm came upon us and the wind "tilted" the ship... was an experience, but the capt quickly recovered and I didn't think it was too bad after that. (thought it was much like the first night) I felt the capt. did a great job avoiding wilma and t.s Alpha.

Although I was looking forward to going to Key West and Cozumel, I was happy that we were just going "somewhere" and not into a storm. (Again... I didn't want to get sick).

So... off to Nassau, StThomas, and SanJuan. I had been to all three ports before. I too was surprised that were were in Nassau on a Sunday with little shops open, but enough were open for me and that was ok. We shopped a bit and then took a cab to Atlantis. The guard wouldn't let us on the property (towards the pools)... so we just found our way down one of the halls with guest rooms and went out one of the side doors and walked around. It is a very beautiful and HUGE resort! Lots of neat aquariums, etc. In St.Thomas we took the RedHook ferry to St.Johns were my sister happend to be and she picked us up and we went back to her place for awhile and to the beach... then took the red hook ferry back to the boat. Nice day. Gotta snorkle on St.Johns! Beautiful beaches!! San Juan was ok. Went on the Barcardi Rum factory tour. Felt we spent WAY too much time waiting.. in traffic, on the bus, and at Barcardi... (waited over an hr for our tour). I though the tour part was so. so. We were very rushed. Best part was the free drinks! We then shopped around San Juan for awhile and then back to the ship.

There always seemed something to do on the ship. I feel a cruise is what YOU make of it! You can do as much or as little as you want. I felt the week was great and went at a nice pace. I never felt rushed or felt like I wanted to go home. I felt as thought I got the relaxation that I needed and wanted to get out of this trip.

We were off the ship before 8am and at the airport at 9am. Our flight home wasn't until 6:30pm that night so we spend the day in Orlando visiting with relatives.

Overall we both had a great time and will cruise Carnival again. I am sorry the other poster had such a bad time and was sick. I know what that feels like. Don't give up totally on Carnival.

Thanks for listening... I hope it helps others out in making a decision about the Glory.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review, Cathy. I might suggest you cut and paste it into it's own thread so that other's might read it - it's not accurate to post it under a thread with negative connotations against the Glory, though it does make for interesting reading considering you have two people on the same ship with completely different impressions.

You are not the first to mention the fact that Nassau is shut down on Sunday. This is dissappointing, as Nassau is the reason we picked this cruise (DH wanted to go there). We will make the best of it! :)
