casino on explorer of the seas

I have been both on Rhapsody of the Seas and Explorer of the Seas to both the South Pacific and New Zealand and the only places you could smoke were outside on two sections of the decks. No smoking in the indoor areas at all.

That is only while the ship is in Australia. In the US, smoking is allowed in the casino, unfortunately. I believe the OP will be on the ship to Alaska.

Smoking by the pool and solarium might as well be inside. We avoided the starboard side of the pool and solarium.

Ah yes, apologies... that would be the case.

Mind you, can never tell by smell that the ships that come to Australia and do their seasons here ever had smoking in the casinos... so that is kudos to the staff on board who keep it smelling clean. Usually it is hard to remove the smell of smoke from carpets, curtains etc.

If it begins and ends in Australia there is no smoking in the casino for the entire voyage. I'm not certain about cruises that begin in Australia but end elsewhere

Yay!

I couldn't remember if this was the case and on our last cruise, Navigator out of Southampton, I found the smoke in the casino pretty annoying. As an ex smoker, it usually doesn't bother me much but there were people sitting in groups around the poker (slot) machines not playing just smoking and talking and the smoke concentration seemed to be much higher than normal :( This was at the edge of the very small non-smoking section so there really wasn't a way to escape it other than to leave.

I spent far less time in there as a result (good for me I guess! :D)

Next cruise is Voyager out of Sydney :)

I just got off the Explorer on Friday. Spent a few hours in the casino. Smoking was allowed. If you were near any smokers you could smell the smoke. Otherwise it was better that NCL's casinos. Every so often there was the smell of something similar to fe breeze that was added to the A/C ducts. I assume a smoke odor killer.

I have information that I just got from a reliable source at rccl headquarters that they plan to try an experiment on one ship in the near future to have no smoking in the casino. They will see how it goes and based on feedback and money spent determine if it will be a fleetwide change.

The success of this will probably depend on how much $$$ the casino makes - as a smoker - I can tell you I will be spending 1/8th of the time I would normally if this is imposed so therefore less $$$.

That was before they eliminated balcony smoking. And, yes, even then it stunk of stale smoke. Can't get that odor out in one day.

No - it wasn't - there has been no smoking on balconies for quite a while. Formal nights still were designated non smoking in the casino. Eliminating smoking on 1-2 nights spread out in the casino will certainly not eliminate the smell.

No Smoking in Explorer of the Seas Casino here in Australia. Our government cares about our health.

Australia has some of the strictest smoking rules in the world and Royal has to obey to some of them.

Thank God for that. I thought I had made a major mistake booking RC.

I am not against people smoking. Just so long as they respect everyone else who cares about their health and would prefer not to passively smoke. I will respect any smoking area and give it a miss.
