Status of Chankanaab Park?

Great to hear that Cozumel will soon be accepting cruise ships again. Looking forward to stopping there in February 2006. Has anyone heard what the status is of Chankanaab Park as we had planned to swim with the dolphins there and heard the park had been destroyed?

I read it was gone..... Whether they will rebuild and how soon is open to question. Once NCL and the other cruise lines start using Cozumel again, we'll probably receive more answers.

Of course they will rebuild - it is a state owned park.

 

The beach was manmade - they'll truck more sand in.

 

The dolphins will take longer. The dolphins and sea lions are safe on the mainland, but the dolphin facility isn't expected to reopen for 6 months. At least that is the goal.

From what I've read on this board and others, the park is indeed gone.. and rebuilding as soon as supplies can be shipped.... the goal was 6 months.....with all the hurricaine damage here, flordia, No, LA.. supplies at an affordable price will become an issue.

 

we went to grand caymen in april, about 6 months after Ivan... now grand cayman is full of $$, but supplies and workers equaled a once beautiful island about 1/3 at best up and running 6 months out. so this leaves me worried as to time frames with smaller islands... if GC isn't recovered..... we're loosing our favorite stomping grounds quickly and sadly.

Chankanaab is trying for mid-December. The dolphins may take six months before opening again.
