St. Thomas ideas

Charter a sail boat or power boat for the day. So many places to snorkel and explore. We've done a private sailboat charter once and then power boats three times. We've used St Thomas boat rental once and Aquablue twice. Next week we will be using Aquablue again. Different destinations each time: Jost van dyke, St. John's, Norman island. Snorkeling, swimming, beach exploring. Always a great day.

With your late arrival most independent day sail operators won't be an option, and a private option to Jost Van Dyke, for example, would run you over $600. Very nice day though, and you could share the cost with other folks on your roll call forum. Most of these are powerboats with a 6 passenger max.

For an easier day just hop a taxi to a beach. Depending on how many ships are in port with you Magens and Coki will probably be crowded by the time you arrive but are nice beaches, Coki is fun for snorkeling. Sapphire Beach doesn't get as crowded and is a beautiful beach with natural shade and good snorkeling.

Should mention that you will be docked at Crown Bay which is to the west of Charlotte Amalie on the map, and Lindbergh Bay (aka Emerald Beach for the resort there) is much closer than Sapphire and the other East End beaches if looking for a closer beach. The Emerald Beach Resort has a restaurant, beach bar, and nicer restrooms of you want more of a hotel experience, while Sapphire is home to a few condo properties with a rental office for lounges, snorkel gear, etc and a couple food and drink options.

A short ferry from Crown Bay to Honeymoon Beach on Water Island is also an option, but be aware that has become a busy spot with excursions stopping in and others from your large ship.

If a private powerboat to beaches on STT, STJ, or Jost interest you, you will find many of these listed under day charters on the vinow dot com site.

We went to Coral World last year and loved it, but then again, we aren't beach people and I don't know how to swim. It is a beautiful island with beautiful beaches, and I've heard, fine snorkeling and scuba diving.

Do you recall how long it took to get to Coral World? Which Port did you dock? How long did you have to wait for the taxi to fill up?
