tring Posted January 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) Will be flying home from Sri Lanka (probably with Emirates) so thinking of stopping off in Dubai for about three nights. We would not want to spend more than necessary and preferably not travel too far from the airport, but would like somewhere were we could pick up public transport for our two days there and see places - the historic part appeals. Room only would be fine as we could no doubt pick up something for breakfast from a local shop and would be arriving about 2-3 am the first night so may not make breakfast that day anyway. We would not need a pool, though a rooftop type one or outdoor bar where we could relax would be good. We realise cheap and Dubai are not words to be used in the same sentence, but if anyone can suggest any options, we can decide if it will be viable cost wise. Eboracum_d Posted January 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2017 We were very pleased with the Arabian Court Hotel very close to the Museum in the centre of Dubai on the Dubai Creek. It has a rooftop pool and, from memory, three restaurants and booking it over the Internet was very reasonable. It's about a 20 minute taxi ride from the Airport. tring Posted January 3, 2017 Author #3 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Thanks that looks like a good start. I assume you used taxi transfers, can that just be arranged as you come out of the airport or would it be best to book ahead?
Eboracum_d Posted January 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2017 I had a car thrown in by Emirates as part of the ticket deal I was on. But you should have no problem just picking one up at the airport and the hotel will get you one for the return journey Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
tring Posted January 3, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Thanks again, have just looked at the hotel's website and checked it on TA. Looks ideal for our needs. If I have the right hotel it is called the Arabian Courtyard Hotel & Spa. Looks right as it fits your description and offers museum view rooms. Eboracum_d Posted January 3, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2017 That's the one. The Museum area is well worth looking around. There.s also a Souk area nearby which comes to life in the evenings though it's aimed at the natives, or more accurately the immigrant workers, rather than at Tourists. sgmn Posted January 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 12, 2017 Hi - Premier Inn have a hotel near the airport - they are very reasonable and a good basic standard. Check out their website. For a little more luxury there is Le Meridien near the airport - great open air food options. Or get a hotel attached to the city centre mall - this is very close to the airport. So many choices
tring Posted January 13, 2017 Author #9 Share Posted January 13, 2017 (edited) We have booked into The Arabian Courtyard Hotel, which was mentioned earlier. You are right sgmn, there is lots of choice. The one we have booked is near the Creek and Museum. We have looked at the area on Google Earth and seems great for us as it is near to interesting areas, rather than a shopping mall or the centre of a modern town. We have booked a classic (standard) room with breakfast for two for £250 (about £300 with tax) for three nights, which is pretty good going for Dubai! We were considering a Museum view room, but seems it is quieter at the back of the hotel. Once we realised how close the airport is to the town we decided we would be better there than near the airport. Thanks for the though. Eboracum_d Posted January 15, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 15, 2017 tring I should have mentioned that (at least when we there) the hotel provided a free minibus to its sister hotel at the beach. I think this was a twice a day offering. Sent from my iPad using Forums
tring Posted January 15, 2017 Author #11 Share Posted January 15, 2017 Thanks for the info though we are unlikely to use it as we will have spent 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. Greatly appreciate your suggestion of the hotel though as it seems to fill our requirements really well.
