We are cruising on the majesty 24/2 and just wondered if anybody can tell me what night the formal night is and whether everybody does get dressed up. At the ports of call is there anywhere to have a nice walk or is it necessary to do a ships excursion? Also is it a good idea to take extra tea bags, coffee etc for use in the cabin?

We were on Majesty in October - our second time on board and, up to now, our favourite of the 3 Thomson ships we have sailed on. The passengers were of the 'more mature' age in October and most did dress up for the formal night - this is usually the night of the day at sea so probably day 5 on your itinerary - and some gents even wore dickie bows every evening; you may find it a younger/more relaxed crowd in the Canaries but if you like getting dressed up go for it and you certainly won't look out of place. No need to take extra tea bags and coffee as these are replenished daily and, if you do run out in your cabin, you can just replace them at any time from the buffet restaurants where there is a good choice of coffee sachets and tea bags including good old PG Tips.

What are your ports of call?

We did the Canaries a few years ago on Majesty and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you let us know what the ports are, I can tell you more about what we did where.

The coffee at breakfast is not very strong and a good tip is to take a coffee sachet from your cabin to add to your morning brew.

 

We have done this itinerary and it is possible on a lot of the stops to potter by yourself. Have a lovely time.

Disneyfans4 - we are also on the Majesty on the 24th Feb (will be our 4th time). Love the friendliness of it. The formal night should be day at Sea so in between Madeira and Morrocco. Hope this helps.

We came back from The Majesty on the 18th Feb, and had the 'formal' night when we left La Palma, so not on a sea day. Most people looked very smart, but not many men in tuxedos or jackets. Lots of ladies in cocktail style dresses, or smart separates with sparkly tops.

You can walk around most ports but would need the shuttle bus in Lanzarote, to get into town. We did a trip to The beach, which cost more, but the sun shone, the promenade is very nice and lots of cafés and restaurants.

We have been to Tenerife a couple of times before, and someone suggested taking the tram and going to La Laguna(hope I have spelt that correctly. So we found the tram station and took a 45minute journey (5 euros return for both of us,) up to the old part of the town at the top of the 'mountain' backing the port. We found the oldest church in Tenerife, and climbed the bell tower. There are lots of other old style attractions up there as well, which to go and see them all cost 5 euros.then when we came back we went to the ' opera house' where you can have a tour for next to nothing, and walk a bit further to see the pools.

If you go to Morocco I would recommend a ships tour. We did the first time we went, but this time decided to take a Taxi into Agadir. I don't think we really got the most out of the day, and the driving and shopping destinations were not the best. At points we were surrounded by local Berbers wanting to have photo's taken with us, with various animals from snakes, camels, and kid goats. Then there were some who just took it upon themselves to appoint themselves as a guide, etc.

Anyway, we had an absolutely fab cruise, and lots of sunshine, so whatever your decide to do enjoy
