Hoping for experience booking same day heli flights in Juneau. We are traveling this summer & would like to do the Icefield Heli Tour through Coastal (just the flight - no glacier landing or dog sledding). As of now, they have openings for our family of 3 for each of their hourly time slots. The tour is something we'd love to do, but I am hesitating spending $1,000, knowing it could be foggy or rainy and our visibility would be low. Is it realistic to book same day? We are in port 9am - 9pm. Thanks for any experience you can provide.

I am looking into this tour as well...but my understanding is that the Icefield Tour does have about a 20-30 min landing!

all the tours land. Sorry, if you are going to wait until you are there to book, AND need 3 seats, your chances of walk up space is going to be slim. IF you continue to only consider walk up, I'd suggest you be open to ANY of the three companies for availability and not just one.

Of course, you'd need to be on the phone- to see if any space, as soon as you have cell service. Most important, being accepting of not going.

Thank you. I appreciate the response. We'll book ahead, then. It's high on my hubby and son's wish list, so I'll not chance it.

As they currently have 3 slots in all 10 hours, I thought that perhaps it would be possible to same day book. Thank you for sharing your experience so I know to book ahead!

I did the Heli ride with landing on the glacier. It was raining when we got into port, well there goes this trip. We waited, it cleared and off to the airport. Just flying over the ice fields is amazing, but landing, WOW! We landed in two different places, watched others just fly over. One of the landing sites was a little cloudy. The pilot just move the clouds around with the downdraft, made a nice clearing.
