joe king Posted May 14, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2017 Good Afternoon. We are booked on the FO, Greenland, Iceland, Norway cruise in August. After browsing through the shore excursions we found there is not a lot to do in Eskifjordur. Does anybody know of anything else to do there or of anything worth going to see? Ta. tring Posted May 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 16, 2017 I have never heard of it, even on a cruise itinerary. You could also try posting on the ports of call section (but I would also mention the country in your title, as well as the port). However, as it is such an unusual port you are much more likely to get a response on the Trip Advisor forums (CC's sister site). I also search for unusual ports on Google Earth to assess distances and see what is there. Street view is good, if it works there! Some smaller places are fine to just walk ashore. ovccruiser Posted May 16, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 16, 2017 Seem to recollect going there when we did a cruise to Iceland. Not too much to do there, but well worth a half day walking around and a trip the other half day. IIRC there are a few local craft shops that need hunting for as they are not like our shops, they are usually in someones house.
jokskot Posted May 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2017 There is a superb waterfall at Litlanefoss, about 1 hours drive (plus a one hour return walk from the parking spot) away. Also superb sceneryt en route. You could hire a car from the nearby airport to be delivered to your boat. The cost will be pretty high - as is everything in Iceland - but maybe you could arrange to share costs with fellow passengers. That said when we visited Seydisfyordur (just a few miles north) in May 2016, all the roads were impassable due to snow, and visibility was such that we couldn't see the tops of the mountains framing the fyord! jokskot Posted May 19, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 19, 2017 ....and if you're visiting Akureyri I recommend the Lake Myvatyn trip provided by FAB travel (Google them). {I have no connection with FAB travel other than as a satidfied customer}
