Scooters In Bermuda???

We will sailing to Bermuda in May '06 on the Majesty out of Boston. I have a question about the scooters.

 

I am wondering if you rent scooters, is there a place where you keep/park them overnight while you are on the ship (assuming that they can be rented for the entire time you are there)?

 

Also does anyone have info on rental prices?

Yup! You can park and lock them in a private parking area right beside the ship.

 

Haven't rented one in our past few trips, so I can't offer any pricing info, but others who've rented more recently will surely be able to help with that.

I suggest checking with your auto insurance company if you're covered in Bermuda or not. Otherwise, make sure to get insurance coverage when you rent the scooter.

Bermuda law require all rentals to purchase insurance (it's not an option like it is here in the US).

 

Be careful when you rent the scooter. Most people I know who have (including myself) have a story about hitting something. I will rely on the bus/ferry in the future.

You can make prior arrangements on-line with a number of companies. I have used Oleander Cycles and have been satisfied with their service and rates. They have rental centers in all three Bermuda ports.

My advice is beware the round-a-bouts

Be careful on those things!!

Have to admit, we were quite envious of the hundreds we saw zooming around the island when we were there last October and you do have access to much more scenery etc, and getting up and down the large hills to the southern beaches is much easier. BUT, those things are dangerous and the traffic is bad and many blind curves and narrow roads.

There are many accidents every week and a fatality the week before we were there and another accident with someone driving off the pier but that person was ok.

We buy the three day bus pass for $26 and much safer.

Use the bus. Those scooters look like a lot of fun but they are very dangerous. Every time we have cruised from Boston to Bermuda (7 times) they are people on the way home on crutches due to accidents on a scooter. A couple of years ago a woman on our ship was killed while riding o one with her husband. The buses are a great was to see the island. You can get a three day pass right in St Georges as soon as you get off the ship.
