displaced_qlder Posted July 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Hi All, I have been researching this issue, including via TA and receiving conflicting information, so thought I'd come straight to the experts! Our first RC cruise (having experienced P&O and Carnival) is booked for South Pacific in Nov. I am in the habit for all cruises of registering a credit card for onboard purchases, but also take a wad of cash which I use to whittle down the final c/c balance. For our RC cruise I am currently collecting USD for this purpose so that I am in control of what exchange rate I am getting and not RC, or my bank in five months time. So, my question is in relation to using RC's Cruise Planner for purchasing drink packages, shore excursions etc, as I have to enter my c/c details when booking these. Will my c/c be charged at the time I purchase these online, or am I merely 'booking' them and they will be charged to my onboard account? This will obviously greatly influence how much USD currency I need to purchase and take onboard. In fact, I will be quite satisfied if I can have these options all booked and paid prior to sailing. Thanks in advance.
tazza_0712 Posted July 15, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Purchases via the Planner are charged and paid for immediately. I believe these costs are in AUD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Rare MicCanberra Posted July 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 15, 2017 Tazza, is correct. BTW, You can also ring up Royal and purchase extra on board credit (OBC) to cover any spending that you may still have on board (i.e casino, shops, specialty restaurants, ship excursions) that haven't already been paid for. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Don't quote me but I think that even though the charges are in AUD they might be processed overseas. If this is the case your bank might charge you a foreign transaction fee even though it is in AUD.
