malta09 Posted July 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2017 I know this has been asked before but looking for some updated information. We are 4 adults looking for a direct transfer from Santiago Airport to Valparaiso. We don't want to do any tours on the way as we will have just been on a 14 hour flight and will likely be exhausted. Has anyone got any recommendations?
relaxatsea Posted July 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2017 We will be doing this in February, 2018, and we plan to take TurBus from Santiago Airport to Pajaritos Station, and then another TurBus from Pajaritos Station to Valparaiso. In March, 2016, after a cruise from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso, we took TurBus from Valparaiso to downtown Santiago (since we were staying three days post-cruise). Our experience with TurBus was very good, inexpensive and very large double decker buses.
LilaC123 Posted July 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 29, 2017 relaxatsea, is there room on the TurBus for large suitcases to fit comfortably while travelling? 4 of us will be doing a 14 day cruise and will be landing in Santiago. We also want to head directly to Valparaiso (we are spending our pre-cruise time in Valparaiso). Thank you in advance for any info regarding the TurBus. Even though TurBus is not direct (we have to change from one TurBus to another at Pajaritos station), we thought it was a great option, based on our previous experience. When you board the bus, the conductor puts a baggage tag on each suitcase and then puts them in the luggage compartment under the bus and gives you the ticket stubs. When you get off the bus (or each bus), you show him your baggage tags and he gives you your suitcases. We are using this method for our 16 day cruise in Feb., 2018. We are also spending four days pre-cruise in Valparaiso. Edited July 30, 2017 by relaxatsea
relaxatsea Posted July 30, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 30, 2017 The Tur Bus is not like a shuttle bus. It is a large double-decker bus, like a Greyhound bus. The seats are very comfortable. Here is the website: www.turbus.cl I couldn't find one in English, but perhaps you can get an idea of the prices.
relaxatsea Posted July 30, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2017 You can also Google "Tur Bus videos" and see some on YouTube.

FredZiffle Posted July 30, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 30, 2017 TurBus is by far the cheapest option for the trip. You can also take the airport bus to Alameda Terminal in Santiago and transfer there to Valparaiso. A good resource for looking at options is Rome2Rio.com . spcl4cs_gal Posted August 5, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 5, 2017 Celebrity is quoting me $81.00 for a transfer from the Santiago airport to the port. Is this considered expensive, seeing as the trip is 1.5 hours in length? Thanks.
iancal Posted August 5, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 5, 2017 (edited) This past Feb. we paid $7 or so for a cab from Ibis Hotel to the Valparaiso bus station. We paid $4 each for the bus from Valpataiso to Santiago (Estation). A few days later we paid about $4 each to take the bus from Estacion to the airport. Both bus trips were very comfortable, very convenient. We never buy cruise line transfers or hotels. We fave found that in Europe and in SA they are about 2-3 times what we pay on our own for the same or similar hotels and transport. If you haven't already, read the 1st pages of Tammy's review "Around The Horn... A Pictorial Review" and my "Guide To South American Ports" which will give you a bit more detail on using TurBus. It was not difficult to find and book, even being sleep-deprived after a long flight.
iancal Posted August 6, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 6, 2017 (edited) Not certain which bus companies serve the airport. We went the opposite way. When we left from Valpo there were at least three bus lines that went to Santiago. We got tickets for the first one. Supposedly there was a sale. We did take Turbus a few days later from Estacion to the airport. We were picking up a rental car at the airport for a few days prior to departing. Turbus was a double decker, lots of room for luggage. We were told that there are some buses that go directly from the airport to Valpo but I suspect that they make a stop in town. In any event there are lots of buses, at least bus depots in Santiago. Buses are inexpensive and very comfortable. We saw lots of them when we were driving around the countryside. You may want to consider getting a hotel at the airport depending on when you arrive. There is a Holiday Inn attached to the airport. We did not stay there...the rates were too high. We did stay at City Express on night and a few weeks later stayed at Diego Almego (sp) Hotel. The latter had a fairly good restaurant. Both offered free and prompt shuttles to the airport. Both included breakfast. Edited August 6, 2017 by iancal
