Cash in Cuba

Recommended Posts

Headed to Havana on Empress in a few weeks. I know US credit/debit cards aren't accepted in Cuba. Are there merchants in the port area that take US dollars? Can you convert dollars to Cuban Pesos in the port terminal? If so, can you also convert pesos back to dollars at a reasonable exchange rate?

Some merchants do, but we changed to CUC's at the terminal.

There's a hefty fee to get CUC's, but it's not there when going back to $$.

And yes, there's a very efficient set of tellers who do exchanges in the terminal.

One thing I should suggest- there will probably be some seminars hosted by some of the staff and perhaps one of the guests- go to them- they are both interesting and enlightening. You will learn a lot.

Have a great time!
