ON board spending credits

My sister & I were just discussing the best way to have money spent in the casino count towards the onboard spending credits. I am referring to the way HAL gives you mariner credit for each $300 spent. I’m quite certain, but correct me if I’m wrong, OBC purchased prior to sailing counts toward the $300. My question is do casino credits bought precruise count? Does cash given to the casino cashier count?

We are just trying to figure out how to maximize our on board spending $.

From the FAQ's:

15. Are any onboard charges excluded from the onboard purchases bonus?

All casino charges, cash advances, Future Cruise deposits, and associated fees are excluded. All other onboard purchases, for example, Hotel Service Charge, Beverage Service Charge, taxes, shore excursions and all gift items purchased online or through Ship Services count towards bonus Cruise Day credits.

OBC purchased in advance does not count immediately because any excess will be refunded. They are just a cash deposit against your final bill. Whatever OBC deposit you actually spend (don't get back) is counted, except as listed above.

By "all other onboard purchases", would that include anything bought in the shops?

We've never made a large purchase onboard so never noticed if it was part of accrued amount for Mariner's points.

Purchased OBC are not on-board spending and do not count. They are the same as if you put down a cash deposit on embarkation day, to pay for your expected spending. It's the spending that counts, not how you pay for it. Nothing spent in the casino counts, whether in cash or charged to your account. Edited by jtl513

Yes. Anything that is charged to your account except as noted in the first sentence.
Also gifts such as a PG dinner or wine or flowers given by your TA/friends/family do count, as those are on-board spending.
