Fouremco Posted January 22, 2018 #26 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Canadian banks no longer sell Travellers Cheques. They are currently available in Canada at numerous credit unions for those who might still want some.
bluewhite Posted January 22, 2018 #27 Share Posted January 22, 2018 My bank manager told me the other day that he would order them for me. In 2015 on the Reflection I was able to cash$200. A day if I needed it for the casino. I guess that is not possible now. And yes I won. Being Canadian we didn't have to pay the U.S. government any tax.🤗🤗🤗

Fouremco Posted January 22, 2018 #29 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Just realized we are neighbors Foremco.. Howdy, neighbour! There are a few of us on here, probably all wishing we were on a cruise right now. Oh well, March will come quickly. :D
Rare Hlitner Posted January 22, 2018 #30 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Both the M and S class ships have ATMs. One always dispenses US$ while the second one dispenses the major local currency. In Europe, Euros, in the Caribbean US$ at both machines. I think is was US$ in both during our Asia trip on the Millennium. Last time we used it the transaction fee was $6.50 and it showed as BB&T Miami. I have withdrawn up to $400 at once without a problem (might as well since the fee is independent of the transaction amount). The problem is you are paying a fee to get dollars and then you are going to pay more fees when you convert those dollars into other currencies. A fee free (with no foreign exchange fees) ATM/Debit card is now the normal way that most experienced travelers get local currency. We have been to parts of Europe where the regular banks will no longer exchange currency (except for their own customers). There are always money exchange places...but you will usually get a lousy exchange rate and possibly also be assessed fees/commissions.
