No Walkoff on Empress??

Recently this was posted on a review of Empress:

Sure enough, night before arrival back in Miami we are informed that we will be docking at Terminal J, that there's no self-service departure - everyone has to have their bags out night before - and that after we leave the terminal we have to take our own bags to a shuttle to go to the other side of the port to where we all parked our cars. Also the day before we were asked when we wanted to get off and were given luggage tags that were supposed to be appropriate.

Has anyone else experienced this? I will be on Empress 2/3/18 for a 5 day trip and I am going to carry all (I only take one suitcase for short trips) of my luggage off, I mean they can't really stop you, right. What are everyone else's thoughts on this?

There may have some misunderstanding on the posters part. I walked off with no issues - though that was a year ago.

This will be my 4th trip on Empress and I always walked off before.

terminal J is where? That could be the reason, no safe route to parked cars or for taxi service. Looks like they had to get off, pick up their luggage, and be shuttled back to a regular terminal for Customs. There must have been a ton of ships in port that day if they had to use a terminal J

^ right, but even then, if you have small/easily carried luggage, I doubt they would deny you walking off with it.

I'm not sure but I believe the construction on terminal J is complete. It is regularly used by all the high end lines such as Oceana, Crystal, etc. this is from the port http://www.miamidade.gov/portmiami/cruise-terminals.asp.
