Hotel options

We are planning our first cruise (Princess Star to Western Carribean in April 06). I was wondering which is a better deal and/or more convenient: Booking your hotel (for the night before embarkation) through Princess and getting their included transport - or - booking your own hotel and your own transport from the airport and to the ship. We are going to be flying into Fort Lauderdale the day before embarkation to make it a little less hectic (we are coming from NY). Any tips? Any hotels that you recommend?

Thanks! :D

In FLL, it is far cheaper to do your own hotel-remember that the Princess price is just for one person. The transfer is also overpriced, you can get from the airport or a hotel faster and cheaper in a taxi. Many hotels have free shuttles. Check out the Fort Lauderdale section of the ports and pre-post hotels board for lots more information.

Taxi would only be about $8-$10 from most hotels to the pier.

Transfers are indeed way over priced and take longer as the bus needs to fill up while you wait.

Hotels are way over priced through Princess unless you are in a European city for example that has very limited hotel space and hotel choices.

Book yourself and don't waste your time on a Princess transfer. Many hotels offer free shuttle from the airport and to the pier. We stayed at Embassy and they picked us up from the airport and took us to the pier, then they picked us up from the pier when the shipped returned to FLL.

I have read that Amerisuites offers the same pick up and delivery. I am sure there are other hotels who offer the same.
