Kenster Posted March 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 16, 2018 Our two previous river cruises (both Avalon) have been either Spring or Fall. Our upcoming cruise is in July. For any of you who have cruised the rivers in July, what were the temperatures like. Houston (where we live) will be in the high 90s F (About 33C?) every day at that time of year. We hope it's not going to be quite that bad.
Rare notamermaid Posted March 17, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2018 I doubt it will be that bad, Kenster. While we do get 30 to 36 degrees in the valleys in July we consider them heat waves, rather than the norm. It can last two days or a week or perhaps ten days. That would be long. It will be lovely on the rivers but towns can feel a little stuffy. Just remember that you will encounter places without air conditioning, like small restaurants. 24 to 28 degrees is more standard. I have day cruised on the Rhine in hot temperatures and find it ok. Just the crowds in towns can be a bit much in the heat. If it gets too much for you just look for the beer garden or an ice-cream parlour. :) Have a look around weather websites like weatheronline or accuweather to give you an idea of temperatures, they do vary from area to area, after all, Rhine and Danube cruising areas can be more than a 1500km away from each other, Amsterdam in the Northwest of the continent and Budapest quite a bit further Southeast on the other side of the European watershed... notamermaid
