Money for Casino

Hi

We are getting excited for our 2nd cruise on Sovereign of the Seas. My parents will be going with us on March 6, 2006. This will be there first time on a cruise. They will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.

Mom and dad are getting ready to leave this weekend for Florida where they will be spending the next 4 months. Dad was asking me about the gambling on the ship.

I know there are a lot of casino worshippers out there. Can you please let me know how you handle the money for gambling? Do you bring cash? Do you bring travelers checks? Are the travelers checks exchangeable in the casino? Can you do a cash advance on your sea pass card?

I appreciate any and all advise. Dad doesn't want to carry a lot of cash around and wants to avoid long lines if possible.

Speaking of long lines. Mom is limited with her walking and has to occasionally use a walker. Any special accomodations for her?

thanks all.

You can do cash advances with your sea pass card. At the table, you just ask for how much you need/want (I don't know how high the limit is... I've never reached it) and you sign the receipt and they give you what you asked for in chips. The last cruise I was on was my worst luck gambling cruise ever. I asked for $400.00 two different nights using my sea pass card.

I normally bring around $400 to $500 to gamble with. This last cruise was only the 2nd one I ever needed to use the sea pass card. They also have ATM machines but I think they have a $5.00 service charge. I've never used them.

Don't know what your dad plays but be advised the craps table is single odds only.

You can use cash or travelers checks but your best bet is to just take out money against your seas pass card. There is no extra fee for this and you are allowed up to around $1500 a day, I think. You can get money at the casino cashier or at a table game if you sit down. Also, if you need tip money at the end of the week, just go to the casino cashier and get some against your seas pass. That is what we do, then pay the bill when we get home and get all those extra miles for the dollars charged.

As an above poster mentioned, there is always the conviently placed ATM machine just around the casino doors. Most times its the only one on the ship, this should tell you something. You'll never see a conviently placed deposit drop box to automatically deposit all your winnings! lol

Do you bring cash? YES

Do you bring travelers checks? YOU CAN IF YOU PREFER

Are the travelers checks exchangeable in the casino? YES

Can you do a cash advance on your sea pass card? YES, IT IS TREATED AS A PURCHASE ON BOARD SO YOU ARE NOT CHARGED ON YOUR CC AS IF IT WERE A CASH ADVANCE.

As mentioned by others, I always use my sea pass for cash advances. The great thing is I use my RCCL Credit Card so I get double points back. You can also exchange Traveler's checks at the Purser's desk.

I suggest limiting the cash you carry on to small bills for use in ports, I had very few and had to wait at the purser's desk very early one morning.
