switching rooms

We have a family of 6. Dh and I would like to get a balcony for the younger two kids and us. The other 2 ages 16 and 11 in an inside across the hall. Can we book the older kids in their own room or does it need to be one adult in each room. I know that on Carnival you can book one adult in each room and then once onboard go to the purser and have the adults put together. Any advice?

You need to book one adult in each room. But go to the purser's desk after you board and they'll give you the extra access keys to accomodate having the two older kids in the separate cabin.
