Have never been to Venice before and although it wasn’t my intention to stay 2 days post-cruise, the November flight schedules have dictated otherwise which I hadn’t really budgeted for .

All (helpful ) recommendations/suggestions in relation to accommodation welcome. Thanks

I think a 2 day stay post cruise would be great, gives you a chance to see Venice after the cruise ship and day trip crowds are gone. Evening and morning are the best. Obviously, it would be best to stay in Venice proper, especially with kids. Much easier to stop in your room if necessary during the day. Accommodations will be more on the island, however, other than accommodations you can have a great time in Venice spending little money. Walking all over the town, bridges, canals, etc would be fun for kids. The Vaparetto is not expensive and would be fun. We went to St. Georgio and went to the top of the bell tower (rather than St. Mark's) for great views of Venice. I think it was only 10 Euro or so to to go the top. Kids would enjoy this.

You might take the traghetto (gondola ferry) across the Grand Canal - great fun (see this website) https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/traghetto.htm. Murano is a great place, you can watch glass making free in a factory. Worth buying two day Vaporetto tickets. Murano glass factories offer a free ride across from St Marks to the factory. You have to walk through the shop to get out, but no obligation to buy. Then get the Vaporetto back. For information about Vaporetto see https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-vaporetto-fares.htm

how old are the kids? and can you easily manage them PLUS luggage to walk a few blocks and over a bridge or 2?

Last yr my nephew and kids decided to meet us in Venice (9 months and 2 yrs), so I cancelled my 2 nite budget hotel by the train station and got an apt instead. We had used this owner before but in a smaller apt .... this one was a large 2 bedroom nr the Rialto Bridge (the Carampane).

We took a bus from the airport to the Piazzale Roma, then vaporetto to Rialto, then walked a few blocks. We all travel light so it was easy, even with a stroller. https://hotelguerrato.com/

Our budget hotel was the Hotel St Lucia. This hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Piazzale Roma and one large bridge.

But you would also need to get from whichever pier you're using to Piazzale Roma.

p.s. (Many people find it convenient to stay at Piazzale Roma or very close by. )https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/bridges/piazzale-roma.htm
