thoma458 Posted March 1, 2006 #26 Share Posted March 1, 2006 On RCI a few years back my wife and I went to the art auction, lured in by the free champagne... then we ended up winning 4 pieces of art valued at over $1000! We never had them appraised, but they made great souvenirs and nice gifts to our parents. Plus, it was fun bidding "blind" on some pieces of art - we were under no obligation to purchase of course! We ended up buying a beautiful piece by Thomas Kinkade - when I got back to the states again, no appraisal (a gift for my parents) but I compared the price to a few local Kinkade specialty stores in MI and found I had gotten a great deal. But like I said, the free champagne is good enough for us :)
jhannah Posted March 1, 2006 #27 Share Posted March 1, 2006 Never purchased any art onboard. Went to one auction just to see what it was like. Stayed 15 minutes. That was enough for me!
gizmo Posted March 1, 2006 #28 Share Posted March 1, 2006 The thread that I Luv Crusin is referring to can be found here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=298255 It is indeed *very* interesting - but I wouldn't be showing up at any auctions hoping Park West will make the same mistake twice ;) Wow ! I just read that thread. Unbelievable !
